Authors Note: I have never known a more pointless, fluff fic than this one you're coming over to read.
For the past week Mac Taylor had dreaded going home more than looking at the bodies at work. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy the Christmas season or the cheerful moods that came from it but there were Santa's Grottos in shopping malls with less decoration than in his appartment.
He loved Jo, he really did, but currently wished someone had warned him about how over the top her tinsel obsession was. He couldn't find a single wall, window or ornament that didn't have something festive attached to them and it did not seem to stop appearing yet.
Before this week the decorations had been minimal and pretty but damn, his girlfriend did not take this sort of thing lightly. It was Christmas Eve and he should have guessed this would only force more excitement out of her yet the icicle-shaped light that had been hung up and the adorable elf hat she was wearing when he walked in were still a surprise. Her lips found his almost immediately and there was no way he could think of anything else even if the images of fake snow and the large tree were etched on to his brain.
This time last year neither of them would have dreamt this was going to be where they were now. A simple drink between single friends on Valentine's Day had started it all and the moving in together had felt so right and they had been doing brilliantly until this extravaganza took its toll.
"I thought we agreed there were enough lights?"
"But they were on sale and I couldn't resist!"
He shook his head in disbelief and asked, "Why were you not like this at Halloween?"
"There isn't so much of a build-up for it, to me it doesn't mean very much and if you remember correctly we were far too busy that evening to worry about scary monsters," she continued with a wnk before kissing him deeper than the previous one.
"Ugh, please, daughter wandering around who really does not want to see or hear what you get up to!" Ellie exclaimed as she took a bottle of water from the fridge and left for her room again, making sure they knew she was turning the volume higher on her iPod dock. The teenager was only joking with them because she actually loved having Mac with them, and she had ensured him her mom was like this every year but was definitely at new heights in this relationship so he shouldn't be too annoyed at her.
"Next year we will have to discuss the extent of the number of items you just had to have though, agreed?"
Jo pouted and nodded, "At least you're saying there is going to be a next year."
She raised a hand to take the green and red-trimmed hat off but he stopped her midway, "Do you not want a repeat of Halloween yet?"
"You are going to have to wait 'til later tonight if you want that present, detective."
He threaded his fingers through the shoulder length dark hair that was on show below the hat and pulled her closer, "Remind me why I wanted us to live together," he whispered low into her ear.
"You love me, I love you, you secretly want all these tacky decorations in your life."
