Moonlit Mist
The ground was covered in a choking mist,
Crouching in the overgrowth was a silver cat,
He watched, unmoving, in disgust at the rise of the moon,
Something crashed through his forbidden garden,
He twisted around and was tripped over by a human,
She had shiny eyes from crying, and she had been carrying a book.
When the girl stumbled over something, she lost her beloved book,
She looked around, but she couldn't comprehend for the blinding mist,
Then suddenly a pair of eyes appeared in front of her and looked human,
She curled in on herself until the eyes were matched with a body of a cat,
His silver fur like moonlight and emerald eyes looked at home in the garden,
When he looked at her she felt like she had been blessed by the moon.
Inspecting the teenage girl, he found her wild nature beautiful in the moon,
He looked over to see surrounded by daisies and buttercups a book,
The title was unreadable, but the book looked one of a kind and ancient like his garden,
He peered over to the girl, who carried such a mystery, to find her eyes mist,
Poor girl, he thought as he walked over to her as graceful as was expected of a cat,
Looking into her honest blue eyes he felt something he had never felt from a human.
When the strange cat approached her, she reacted like any other human,
She reached out and began to stroke the fur that glowed like the moon,
He looked at her with such understanding, but she told herself this is just a cat,
Then she spotted her most precious item, her only true family, her book,
She gently cradled the book that was the only thing left of her mother, even if it was damp from the mist,
The cat stepped up on her lap and rubbed his head under her jaw, she could smell on the cat the garden.
He could smell pain, shame, embarrassment, and most of all fear that drowned his garden,
Then, surprising him, she told him her story of how she was treated by humans,
He thought to himself, how could humans do this to a girl until she flees into the mist,
Then he saw how shamed she was, and she seemed afraid when she looked at the moon,
No wonder, he thought, after what those males did to her this night, then he remembered her book,
He pushed the book that the girl had set down, it opened on a picture of a cat.
The girl watched in amazement as the cat turned to her favorite story of a cat,
It was about a cat who risked everything to gain back his lovely garden,
Just like this one, she thought, in the story the cat used to be human, she loved her book,
Whenever she tried to make friends, she was only abused by all humans,
She was terrified of all male humans, but she usually felt, until now, safe under the moon,
Now she was even shamed by her father. Now she wanted to disappear like mist.
Then suddenly the silver cat turned into a silver haired, green eyed male human,
Instead of being afraid, she felt safe in this garden, even when the sun replaced the moon,
He helped her up onto her feet and brushed her brown hair back, then he picked up her book,
Then together they faded, until the moon rose, into the moonlit mist.
