V.E.: A small oneshot. Inspired by a deviantart picture(which I recommend going on to anyone who has a bad case of writer's block, there are bunch of idea starters on that site). This going to be really short.

Enjoy.

Mahad sighed in relief as he leaned his back into the tree in the palace garden.

Finally, some peace and quiet.

The magician's apprentice turned his eyes back to his younger charges on the other side of the tree. Prince Atem's crowned head had nodded off, his chin pointed in the direction of the Millennium Puzzle, and his eyes were closed, obviously tuckered out from playing so much. Right next to him, Mana was also asleep with her back toward the tree. The two younger children were almost holding hands, a sweet scene to anyone who would have come across it.

Mahad felt a smile twist on his face as he looked at the sleeping pair.

Despite the fact that Mahad had no prior experience with younger kids before coming to the palace, he had managed to become the oldest of the trio. Though he didn't hang around with people around his age range, Mahad honestly couldn't say he missed anything.

Atem and Mana had latched on to him, like younger siblings would to an older brother. In fact to anyone who didn't know differently, they would have sworn Mahad was like their sibling.

And Mahad was grateful for it, though at times it could be a little much for him.

He enjoyed how the Prince looked up to him and asked for his help, knowing him to be quiet shy and lonely despite being royalty. Aside from the Pharaoh and Vizier Shimon, there was no one Atem trusted more.

He didn't like Mana at first, but he had warmed up to her. Granted there were still pranks that envolved him looking like a complete and utter fool, but it was less now. Every time Mana had a question about magic or had bad dream, Mahad was able to help her whether by answering the question or letting her sleep in his bed.

Although he was going to have to help her get it out of the latter. It was fine at the moment since she was a child, but it was not going to work with people as she got older.

But that was not now. Now was a time of peace and quiet.

Mahad pulled out the stone tablets Master Rashidi had given him to read for their next lesson. However, he kept glancing back at the kids he considered like younger siblings every few moments. Just to make sure they hadn't woken up.

V.E.: I said it would be short. I wanted to work on so much today because it was a half day, but unfortunately stuff happens and I was stuck at school for an hour. I'll try and do something longer tomorrow or Saturday.

Oh well, review.
