A moment in time
Edward hated starting over, hated being the "new kid" and absolutely hated the way everyone stared at him wherever he went. He had endured it plenty of times, but it never got any easier. This time he was the new kid at a high school in Winnipeg. The uneasy stares that followed him were very unnerving to Edward. Normally he could just ignore them, but not this time. Somehow he felt like he was walking into a trap. He didn't like that feeling one bit and the fact he couldn't shake it made him all the more upset.
Time flew by and in what seemed like a blink of an eye it was lunch time, the time of the day that Edward hated the most. It was the pure torture of being crammed into such a confined place with that many human hearts beating that drove him nearly to his breaking point each day. It was always worse when he was in a new place. He cautiously made his way to an unoccupied table in the farthest darkest corner of the cafeteria. He barely sat down before Alice and the rest of the gang made their way over to him. He met them half way. His face lit up with a grin that none of the others had seen out of him in a long while as he sarcastically said, "lets go get lunch. "
The others couldn't help, but chuckle and roll their eyes as they followed him to the line. Edward got in front and stood as still as a statue, with his eyes unfocusing on anything. Suddenly a voice floated to him from far away. It came from the beautiful girl in front of him and echoed to his conscience, "Hey there," it said, "my name's Zoë. Haven't ever seen you around."
Right then Edward became so unsettled he couldn't speak. It took him a second or two before he could stammer, "Oh, I'm new here. My name's Edward."
"Oh well welcome. My name's Zoë. See ya around Edward," she said as she went her own way.
"Thanks," Edward said to her back.
Edward was so unnerved by his feeling. He was the one who was supposed to make people feel uncomfortable. The way Zoë, this complete stranger, talked to him so perfectly at ease just bothered Edward. Not only that but something just beneath the surface. He pictured Zoë's face and that's when it hit him like a ton of bricks. Zoe's face was a near perfect copy of Bella swan's face. It had been ages since he let himself thing of Bella. It pained him to think of her, to wonder how she was getting on with out him.
Edward was vaguely aware they had made it back to the table. He was so caught up in trying to figure out what had made him so uncomfortable around Zoë. It wasn't like they had any history or anything. He sat there with a stony look on his face and was slowly clenching and unclenching his fists. He was trying hard not only to suppress his memories of Bella, but to figure it all out. Finally he gave up trying to build the walls back up around the memories of Bella, and focused on figuring Zoë out. It just didn't make any sense to him, no matter what theories he came up with. Today was his first day at this school, first time he had ever met Zoë-, but it felt like maybe it hadn't been the first time or something, he just felt like he knew her, somehow. He gave up for the time being, it was just no use and it was going to drive him nuts if he kept trying to figure it out.
