Below is my first Sam/Jack story. It's a tag to Stargate Atlantis Fifth Season episode, Search & Rescue. I don't own Stargate Atlantis, or Stargate SG1, or it's characters. If I did, Sam would've gone fishing years ago!

SEARCH & RESCUE TAG

He saw her face fall. Disappointment was all he saw. Woolsey was taking her job & all he could do was watch. Jack felt so helpless. He had so much power, yet he could do nothing to stop the I.O.A & their decisions.

Sam was amazed that this was happening to her. A year she had devoted to Atlantis. Loved & cherished the city & its people. And now everything she'd worked hard for were being savagely ripped out from underneath her.

She looked up & saw his brown eyes looking back. He took her breath away every time she saw his eyes. Sam truly does love Jack & she knew he was feeling helpless.

Woolsey looked smug. A little too smug. Sam didn't care, she knew it would take him a while to gain the Atlantis' teams trust. At that thought she smiled. Oh yes, Woolsey was going to get a shock.

But now she was home, Sam knew it was important to make up for lost time. Tomorrow she will be joining Jack & the rest of SG-1 for the Goa'uld extraction ceremony on the new Tok'ra homeworld. They'd finally captured Ba'al & his clones; the system lords are no more. The only real threat is the Wraith.

Sam could feel the weight of the rings on her chain. She just wanted to put them back on where they belong. She looked up at Jack & smiled. Maybe it wasn't a bad thing that Woolsey was going to Atlantis. She has a life to get back to.

Jack knew what she was thinking. He knew she'd feel guilty about the team on Atlantis. Then she'd be thinking about them & how she actually doesn't mind Woolsey taking over. She has a life with Jack.

After eight years of waiting, it took Jacob dying for both of them to give in to their feelings. They'd married at Jack's cabin with Daniel, Teal'c, Cassie & General Hammond in attendance. That's how they both wanted it. After everything they'd been through a large ceremony didn't matter.

So here they are, three years later, happily married. Lately Jack had talked with Sam about retiring again. They knew they wanted a family, & with the way things had turned out with Charlie, Jack didn't want to miss anything during his second chance at happiness. He was getting older, & he'd much rather spend his days with Sam & fishing.

Sam was watching him with a bemused expression on her face. He hadn't heard her come up from the Gateroom. He was obviously thinking; something Jack insisted he never did. He still didn't look up when she went to stand beside him. Only when she cleared her throat did he look up. Brown eyes met blue. It was good to be home.
