We lay together on his bed and under the soft, white blanket. Our arms are wrapped around each other; clinging on as if it's the last time. Our legs are intertwined; the soft fabric of our clothes is the only thing that separates our bodies. His head is nestled in the crook of my neck; his soft breath landing on the smooth skin sends shivers through my body.
We listen to nothing, but we hear everything.
His arms hold me; he tells me they will never let me go. His breath caresses my neck; he says he'll love me until he takes his last breath. His legs are strong against mine; he whispers that he'll carry us through the hard times ahead. His heart beats a soft rhythm against his chest and mine; it promises to never stop loving me.
We lay together in his bed and under the soft, white blanket. We eventually remember that this moment could be our last time alone, together. Our legs begin to separate; more unwanted space comes between our bodies. His breath leaves my neck and leaves me with an unintentional heartache. I can still hear the words he hadn't spoken.
Our bodies untangle, and our minds start to wander into the near future. I begin to think of our secret. He begins to concentrate on calling our manager for the instructions for our next interview. I silently watch him leave the room with a glance and a smile directed at me.
Now, sitting alone, I close my eyes. I listen to the only sound I hear. The only sound I want to hear. The only sound I need to hear.
The soft sound of his heart beating a promise against mine; the promises he didn't say, with his love he would never whisper to anybody but me.
His body left the room, but I could still feel his heart beating a promise to me; I can still hear the words that he didn't say. Just an echo of his body, a memory of his love, and the presence of his heart are all I have left.
With a final smile at the past memories, I mentally brace myself for the inevitable controversy to come and take a breath, I stand and make my way to where he is waiting for me as we finally begin show our love to everybody. Finally, we will be free from the heavy secrets, and all we'll need is to just be together.
