He was finally leaving this wasted place, the broken slums of dreams. He had stayed for five years in one place pretty much, after the West Aldian venture of finding Elc.

I was the only thought that was held in Shante's mind. She owed Shu a lot, getting her out of Amigue, protecting her from White House and Gallerano, and giving her a chance to be an aunt-figure to Elc. He had waited to start taking outer-Indigo jobs when Elc began his training in Prodias when he was fourteen. A master hunter training him with the spear and sword for Shu had adamantly refused to make another like him. Even though he would help that other when the other became a full fledged adult.

His mind was set when he and Elc had to get rid of Leiza's clothes the day before the Goddess Ceremony. He had come that night after Leiza to Shante's bar. He had seen the beauty of her voice with sorrow as if she unintentionally knew, even if knowing things earlier than her customers were her job.

The resolve was strengthened after the Arc episode and the return of Elc and Leiza from Yagos Island. When the Hien had gone down, he had fallen into the sea on a piece of drift wood, luckily returning quickly to Indigo for he was protected by the water spirit that channeled its sorrow through Shante.

Shu could remember the song of his nightingale, often raising her voice with the wail of the waters he floated upon. It was her gift from the spirit as a child. It had told her of his return, safely wrapped above the sea's ever writhing arms, injured as he was. Her coincidence of walking upon his fallen and prone form was not an accident. He knew as much when she made sure he healed enough before moving him to a safe house in Indigo.

But when Elc and Leiza had returned, Shante knew they would barely make it out. His grenade had caused such a ruckus with the building falling around them. She was protected by the spirit of water and so she made a barrier with her life force, nearly blasting herself gone from an overdose of spiritual force that she could not handle in her body in order to keep him alive.

Now he was leaving. She could see the solid form of him in the sunset, walking away into the dust traveled roads to catch up with his nephew of sorts. He was leaving her, his face only lost in shadows even if his grey eyes spoke volumes of his love for her.

He was leaving her like in Amigue, after he saved her. He was like that, brief but long lasting in memory and always coming back, a bird that showed her as much as he could bringing back remnants of a life that is. Looking at him as he walked away, a true smile on his face, Shante remembered a small thing a caretaker in Amigue had spoken about before her doomed marriage. "Never have boys. All men eventually leave to go past where you can't see them anymore. You know, past the horizon." Shante had to agree.

Past the horizon indeed.

I love doing Shu x Shante. They're just so awesome together and she is really my favorite character. Working! I am always working it seems! This is my last year of highschool, blargh! I wish to finish Drunken Lullaby so much but I get bored a little easily so I write fics during class. This just happened to be one of many.

LOVES! PLEASE REVIEW!
