"Elc……" She was doing it again, pale arm twitching in her dreams as if he were there, holding fingers of the china she had become.

He hated that the girl on the infirmary bed with all the tubes attached to her was calling out the lost one's name, the one that had gotten away while she willingly sacrificed herself to allow the traitor to escape. He gripped the door way with clenched fists.

She suffered because of the pryo-moron and everyday after her tests came out with results and she lay as she was doing now, Meryl only called out the insufferable name of her lovely little traitor.

She enraged him everyday when he'd sneak past the guards. She never called out to him even if he talked to her while she rested, asleep with results of living beeping in the sterile room.

Everyday, he thought of stories that would make her smile in her sleep but she never once asked for him to take the hand that twitched, the paler version of a human's. They were no longer human, never would be anymore, unlike him.

Gene remembered the pain of his own injections and tests, but he knew they were nothing compared to the incapacitated woman-child on the bed. Elc never felt this pain, made by people who looked at them as if they were an object instead of a person.

Elc had no idea of the pain Gene watched Meryl go through. Elc was probably wasting away in some city, living a life that was denied to his two childhood friends. The boy gritted his teeth as he thought of Elc's promise to the girl on the bed. He promised to get them, to escape with them, that he'd come back for them.

"I'll save you even if I have to kill them, Meryl." He vowed to her, blue icy eyes locking onto the china doll arm that hung off the bed. Her fingers twitched, reaching out weakly like always.

"Elc……." Sighing meekly, Gene touched her for the first time when she was like this even if she was calling out his name.

LLLLLLLLL

Poor Gene. I loved Gene in the series and how heartbroken he was over Meryl!
