I do not own....

The Branch Parent

To be the parent of a child bearing the cursed Hyuuga seal is to bear a shadow over you for all your days.

To live each day, knowing that someone has the power to kill your child with a flick of his hand; to know that there is nothing you could do to stop it, to prevent the momentary look of shock that flashes on your child's face; to know that you can not take away those few moments of blinding, unimaginable pain that rack their body from the inside; to know that all you can do is watch them suffer that pain, and then feel nothing more. To watch them die.

To be Hyuuga, to be sealed, and to learn that you are expecting a child, is terrible blessing. Children are a blessing. Knowing that you bring them into the world only to be cursed and enslaved by their own family is something that will haunt the parent for the rest of his or her days.

But can they, the Branch Family, be blamed for bringing these doomed children into the world? Children are wondrous creatures all people should be able to experience and love. Why should people in need of a light in their lives be denied such joys? And yet, is it a selfish act, to bring children into the world for your own joy, knowing that they will suffer?

These are the thoughts of every Branch member as they progress through adulthood; every time they make love, they wonder; am I bringing into the world a being destined for pain?

One cannot help but wonder if the Branch family ever pondered the idea of ending their story of suffering forever, by ending the cycle of procreation. For if there simply were no more people to seal, if there were no children, what would the Main family do? Could they force the production of children? Is that something the Main family can control? Could the Branch unite and make that sacrifice?

To lead a life of family in the Branch is not an easy thing. It requires selfishness to bring happiness; yet, with the happiness comes a lifetime of haunting and guilt. It is a never-ending cycle that will continue on, for as long as there is a seal, and as long as there are children, there will be pain.
