AN: A short companion piece to "Ours". Just felt like writing it :)
Iruka entered the house with a tired sigh, he sincerely felt like just taking a shower and slipping into bed, but he knew better, if he gave in, papers that needed graded would pile up. He toed off his sandals and slipped off his flak jacket and furrowed a brow when he realized that the house was rather quiet. He walked down the hall, slipping his hitai ate off as he went and looked into the living room, frowning when he didn't find Kakashi nor Minoru there. He wandered down the hall towards their son bedroom and slowly pushed the door opened and furrowed his brow when he didn't find the young boy there. He sighed and walked down towards the kitchen, figuring that maybe they went out for a while. He glanced at the clock and frowned again, But it's kind of late. He filled a glass with water and gulped it down before wandering back down the hall and into the bedroom. And froze in his tracks as a slow smile tugged on his lips.
Kakashi was sleeping while laying on his back, Tomodachi comfortably resting his front paws and head on the sleeping man's stomach, while a pale hand rested on his back, over the henohenomoheji that decorated the blue vest, and dimly noted the green book on the bed. His smile grew as his eyes fell on the sleeping boy sprawled out next to him, a book resting on his stomach as his dark haired head pillowed itself in the crook of Kakashi's shoulder.
He soundlessly removed the rest of his gear and placed it on the dresser before he moved closer to the bed, pressing a single finger against his lips, signaling Tomodachi not to say anything, because even thought the ninken wore shades, he knew the dog was awake; watching over his master and his master's son. He crawled onto the bed and settled himself next to their sleeping son, gingerly brushing away the dark strands away from the fair skinned forehead. He looked at his sleeping husband to find half-lidded mismatched eyes looking back at him, a slow, sleepy smile gracing the older man's lips as the warm eyes slid back shut and drifted back into his peaceful sleep.
Iruka smiled and curled on his side and reached over to lovingly scratch the golden dog's fur, who nuzzled his hand in return. He let his eyes slide shut and figured that the papers and quizzes that needed to be graded could wait.
