Parvati wonders why she was spared while Padma was killed in the Final Battle.
Padma was truely a Ravenclaw at heart. She was always the senible, collected one who thought things through while watching Parvati test the waters.
She was much more careful than Parvati but was always right behind when Parvati needed her, until she was needed the most.
After Padma died on that fateful night, Parvati did not know what do do with herself.
She found she was waiting for most of her sentences to be finished, only to be met with silence. This often prompted tears from family members as they realized what she was waiting for.
She started with trying to use firewhiskey to relieve her problems but stopped immediatley because it was harder to control her thoughts when so intoxicated, rather than easier to forget. She just wished she could obliviate the memory of her twin dying but that would just worry her parents more when they found her looking for Padma.
For this reason she resorted to butter beer. It was not as strong, making it easier to control her thoughts, but allowed her to more sucessfully pretend for a little while that everything was okay.
That was the best way for a while to allow herself to be free, to live again. That all changed on one life changing night.
She was going to the Hog's Head dressed in all black, because Madam Rosemerta was starting to worry about her and she did not want to be reconized at such an unreputable place. Parvati sat down at the bar next to another undistinguishable person, also in black. She ordered as usual and was astonished at the voice of the man sitting next to her. She would reconize it anywhere. They had never been close but it was everywhere you went in happier times.
