A/N: Hey guys! So, I was just sitting around in the staff lounge at my volunteer job thinking about what to do for a sequel for 'Batman: The Past Emerges' when I had the idea for this one-shot. "What is Selina Kyle afraid of?" Enjoy!
Selina rolled over in bed to find Bruce intently staring at her.
"What?" Selina asked.
"Nothing, I was just wondering if you're afraid of anything, are you?" Bruce asked.
Selina sighed, "i'm afraid of several things."
"What are they?"
"Well, i'm afraid of large crowds" Selina stated.
"How are you afraid of large crowds?" The man asked.
Selina shrugged, "i'm not sure...I think it has something to do with the fact I got separated from my parents when I was six...but, in my defense, it was at a carnival and my parents told me to meet up with them at the ice cream stand when I got off one of the rides." Selina ranted.
"Anything else?" The thirty-eight-year-old asked.
Selina sighed, "i'm afraid of being held at gun point, but when it actually happens, I don't let my fear show, I hide my fear by being a bitch."
"And yet, you have no problem holding others at gun point?"
"Because those people haven't witnessed what you and I have...losing people we love in front of us"
Bruce looked at Selina, confused, until he finally understood.
"What happened?"
"My father killed my mother and then killed himself when I was nine." Selina said quietly, she remembered that day like it was yesterday.
Flashback
A nine-year-old Selina Kyle awoke the early hours of July 15th to hear her parents fighting with each other. Selina sighed, she was used to her parents arguing by now, her father had been abusive for as long as she could remember.
Why don't they just get divorced already? It's obvious mama isn't happy. She thought and started walking down to her four-year-old sister, Maggie's room. The little girl was at the door when she heard a gun shot.
"Mommy!" The nine-year-old shouted and ran as fast as her little legs could carry her. The child walked into the living room to find her mother dead. Shot point blank range in the chest.
Hearing foot steps, the traumatized little girl turned around and saw her father pointing a gun at her.
"Daddy...don't!" She shouted, this seemed to briefly stop him. Realizing what he had done to his wife and what he was about to do to his daughter, he turned the gun on himself.
"I'm sorry, Lina, take care of your sister" He told her, letting a tear roll down his cheek, and pulled the trigger.
End Flashback
Selina let a tear roll down her cheek at the memory. That was over twenty years ago, but it seemed like yesterday. The thirty-year-old felt nine-years-old again.
"Please don't leave Bruce" She cried as he embraced her.
"I won't, I love you"
"I love you too, but i'm just afraid_" The woman started, but Bruce cut her off.
"Afraid of what?"
"That one day, you'll love someone else, and i'll just be your ex-girlfriend."
"Of course i'll love another girl...in ten years...and she'll call you 'mommy'"
Upon hearing this, Selina looked up and smiled.
A/N: So, like it? Hate it? Let me know! I know, the end is a little cheesy.
