It's not like she wasn't any different from his other fangirls.
Sure, maybe she was the only one with pink hair, but that didn't matter.
She wasn't his priority, avenging his clan was.
So when he realizes she's part of his team, he doesn't expect much.
Her eyes were cheerful, but not as annoyning as Naruto's. They were a bright green, like his favorite apples.
"Sasuke?"
He looked up, one eyebrow raised at her.
"Just making sure you were awake."
She smiled at him, humming a small song to herself as she walked off to practice.
Everyday she seemed to find a new reason to call out to him and ruin his thinking.
"Are you hungry?"
"You should wear your jacket."
"You're under a bird's nest, she looks really angry."
"Tell Naruto to shut up, please."
"Want to practice with me?"
"Come on, let's spar."
"How do I look?"
"I like your hair today."
"Kakashi is always late, he better have a reason."
And over time, he began to look forward to it.
She began to glow.
Not the kind of glow like when light reflects off his eyes.
Or the kind of glow when there was too much glitter on something.
But she glowed as though she was on fire from the inside.
He found himself wanting to keep that fire bright.
So when one day she doesn't talk to him, punches Naruto, and doesn't smile at anyone, he knows something is up.
So he gets up from his favorite tree and confronts her.
"Hn?"
"I'm fine, Sasuke."
She is the only one in the world who can understand his language.
"No you're not."
She looked up, a glare on her face.
"Who are to tell me how I feel? All you care about is avenging your family!"
He has to pretend the comment doesn't hurt, she doesn't even understand how he feels.
"Sakura."
"Leave me alon-"
She swung back at him, her hands balled into fists, but he caught her wrists and pinned her to a tree.
She was still bright.
But this time the brightness was different.
She was a star, but she was his star.
"Sakura, I care about you, tell me what is wrong."
She paused for a second, before her eyes started to water.
"My grandma died."
Was that all?
Yeah well, his family died.
But she seemed so broken up about this, she had never witnessed death.
And if she had, she was too young to remember it.
He gave her a grin, though it came out as a smirk.
"I'm sure she's happy, Sakura."
She looked up, her eyes watering.
He swore he would never see that again.
"I hope so, Sasuke."
"Maybe she's watching over you, I'm sure she would hate to see you cry."
"I- yes... she would hate to see me like this."
She struggled to free her wrists to wipe her cheeks, before giving up and sighing.
"Um, Sasuke?"
He pressed his lips to hers, before pulling away.
"You taste like salt."
Then he pulls away and walks off like it never happened.
Not even bothering to look back.
"Yeah, well you taste like tomatoes!" She called out to him.
She had pink hair that reminded him of gum, green eyes that reminded him of apples, and a smile that reminded him that there were good things in the world.
