Events of this story are taken from the Star Trek; The Next Generation episode Brothers. S04E03. I was rewatching the episode Inheritance (S07E10) when i wondered why Soong didn't use that procedure for himself.

((((o))))

"I fail to recall how I arrived here." Data said standing up looking at the man next to him. He was inside what appeared to him to be a cross between a lab and home.

"I sent for you, in a manner of speaking."

"And who are you, Sir." The man laughed and put his tool down. Data was undeterred and tapped his comm badge. "Data to enterprise. Enterprise do you read me?"

The man held Data's face and turned his head back and forth, "I always loved that face." He patted Data's cheek and gestured to a chair "Please, sit down."

Data remained standing and thought "We were heading to a medical facility. I was taking the boys brother to sickbay."

"Im sure your starship will be back for you soon. Tell me, do I look somewhat familiar to you?"

Data looked at him and said. "You do bear a resemblance to Doctor Noonian Soong. The cyberneticist who constructed me. But he died shortly afterward. By the crystalline entity."

"Ah, there we are. This is your lucky day Data. You found your long-lost father. And he's alive."

Data however had an objection, "Even if you are telling the truth. You cannot be Doctor Soong. You are too young." Indeed the man looked to just be a few years older then Data. Had Data been human.

"Of course I look young. But I am Doctor Soong. Once I arrived at the planet. I built this home for myself. I never felt to comfortable living anywhere without a pre-arranged route of escape. Anyway, I was badly injured some years ago. I used my skills as a scientist to heal myself. But then, I decided, why stop there. I built an entire android body for myself and used a synaptic scanning technique to transfer my memories into this body. My original body expired soon afterwards. That was an interesting experience, burying my own body. Since then, I have been upgrading myself."

"It is really you?"
