Disclaimer: TMNT is owned by Eastman and Laird. This is my second attempt at prose and one that earned First Place in the 2004 Fan Fiction Competition. However, since then, it has been revamped and enhanced and – hopefully - improved. Blame my anal-retentive nature to never be satisfied with anything that I write or create! :0)

A WARRIOR'S LIFE

Up at dawn before sunrise, he sits as still as any stone,

Breathing, focused, his mind open, waiting and seeking wisdom.

From the depths of his soul to the pinnacle of his being,

This warrior desires nothing but perfection, a life of excellence.

Filled with honor and respect, his integrity is above reproach.

He is the example, the leader and much is expected from him.

His only goal is of victory and the vanquishing of his enemy.

One swift stroke, or two, it does not matter, so long as the job is done.

He follows the warrior's creed - his creed and his faith,

One he holds close to his heart like a precious treasure,

One he would take to his death, lest he fail.

He rises now, complete, his inner balance in-tune with his body.

He takes one sword and then its twin from out their scabbards,

Crossing them before him, he inspects their sharpened edge.

Satisfied, he pulls them to himself and then releases, striking out.

The air hums, now, as he whips the pair around,

Cutting low, then up and over and whirling himself about as they follow.

Electrified, he is one with the air around him, he barely breaths.

Aware of all, yet he's focused on only one thought –

His pair of swords, his mistresses, his very soul...

As fast as any gyroscope, the katana are now in full voice

Reflecting light as they dance, they whirl like a vortex,

The two blades sing their love song to him.

Unsatisfied, he pushes them faster- harder with each movement.

Relentlessly he works them and, tirelessly, they comply.

Yet, as others join him, he slows not, but quickens his pace.

Mindful, now, of those who are with him, late, yet ready,

They choose their tools and join his dance.

And, in unison, they step as he does,

Following the Ever Faithful, the Perfect Son,

Now together, now one of four,

Siblings, brothers, and warriors all.
