Trick or Treat

Happy Halloween everyone! To celebrate this occasion my muse Erik has come up with this one shot that he forced me to write! Please review!

Halloween a celebration that leads up to the day of the Dead a major big deal down in the good old city of Mexico on November the second.

That thought ran bitterly through my mind as I lit up another cigarette and poured myself another glass of tequila, with lime naturally. When I was a kid I saw Halloween as the opportune moment to nick the treats from the little kids in my street. Hey everyone else gave treats someone had to give tricks. Even then I had a firm understanding of keeping and maintaining the balance.

I'm not into all the big festive holidays, Christmas, New Year, Thanks Giving. New Year now this holiday in particular pisses me off. People sit in little groups counting down the minutes till the New Year and make their new years resolutions. The main culprits being this year I'm going to give up smoking, this year I'm going to diet, this year I'm going to stop drinking. It's all a fucking joke I remember before I was able to escape the claws of my parents I was forced to sit in our front room listening to my family making their New Years resolutions. When the rest of my family made theirs it was my turn, "why are you not making any New Years resolutions Sheldon?" my mother would ask.

"I don't see the point in them, no one ever sticks to them," I told her. It was true by the third of January people were smoking, drinking and eating more than they were before. Why bother making the bloody resolutions in the first place?

Now Halloween technically this should be a holiday I could dig. A night dedicated to death, depression and violence. That is how Halloween should have been but it was soon over run by happy little kids dressing up as fairies, cute little animals and fuck knows what else. As if that wasn't bad enough they went from door to door singing a stupid song or telling a really shitty joke.

This Halloween is different. I guess you might say I have a connection with it, a life time dedication if you will. I never dressed up for Halloween when I was a kid, I am paying the price for it now. I wear a constant mask, only my mask is a little different from the tradition masks. Instead of scaring people with it on I scare people with it off. I don't just wear mine one night a year, hell no I wear mine three hundred and sixty five dears a year. I would say it was a sick fate for not dressing up as a kid if you ask me.

I sat waiting sending plumes of smoke up into the air. Finally the bell rigs I make my way to the door and answer it to however many kids are darkening my doorway. "trick or treat," they all screech. I swear that sound just goes right through me. I count at least four different voices each voice I counted pissed me off more than the last.

I wait a few moments allowing the suspense to build before turning round to give the impression I'm getting treats for them. I turn back round so I'm facing them and I whip off my mask. There is total silence while they take in what they have just seen. One of the kids whimpers while the others gasp in fear. Then I hear them run. "Trick," I call after them putting my mask in place.

I sat back in my chair waiting for the next show to begin.
