"Please listen to me!" Ianto begged. Owen turned to face the youngest member of Torchwood. "I'm tired of being in awe of the rift. I'm tired of living with Jack's secrets; we don't even know who he is!" he spat back; Ianto could tell that anger and determination were flooding through his veins. For Owen, that was one of the worst combinations. "He's our leader" Ianto tried to reason with him but Owen was having none of it: "Not anymore." They stood still for a moment, then Owen moved towards Ianto, "Get out of the way" he ordered; pushing the young man away from him.
Ianto acted on impulse, he jumped and wrapped his arms around Owen's neck. But Owen was stronger than him and managed to turn around and Ianto felt them both fall. He hit the floor first and then Owen's heavy frame smashed into him, knocking the wind out of the smaller man. Ianto tried to make another attempt at putting his hand around Owen's throat but failed again. This gave Owen the perfect opportunity elbow Ianto hard in the ribs, winding him for the second time that day, and struggled free. Ianto, through blurred vision tried to make a grab for the folder but Owen snatched it out of his reach.
Ianto pushed himself to his hand and knees hoping to get another shot at retrieving the file. But Owen's foot connected with his already abused ribs and Ianto felt and heard the crack that followed as he collapsed coughing to the floor, agony radiating from his chest as his vision swam in front of his eyes.
It must have been 5 minutes before he could even attempt to stand up without passing out. Swallowing the pain as he heaved himself to his feet, one arm held tightly around his midsection, he picked up the gun that was on the side and went to find Owen.
Later on that evening when Jack and Tosh had gone into the Captain's office, Owen got the chance to really look at Ianto. He had noticed the younger man wincing a lot and he seemed a lot paler than normal. "Hey, teaboy. Get me a Coffee will you," he asked, "seeing as you just shot me." Owen wanted to look closer at what was causing Ianto pain, but he expected something a little less obvious than what actually happened. Ianto nodded and stood up, he managed a few steps before his right knee buckled and he fell to one knee. He gasped and one hand steadied himself against the floor and the other went to hold his chest. "I knew it." Owen said, moving to stand up, "I did really hurt you, didn't I?"
He bit back a wince of his own and knelt next to Ianto. The younger man attempted to get up and move away from Owen but Jack, who had obviously heard the fall came running out and as Ianto forced himself to his feet only to have his knee's buckle again, grabbed Ianto around the waist and held the thin man close to his own chest. Ianto felt the Captain grab him around the waist but jolted his broken ribs again; knowing that he was in safe arms, Ianto let himself pass out as his body slumped into Jack.
