Author's Note: I was looking through some documents tonight and found this drabble sitting in a folder filled with short little musings. I know it is on my tumblr somewhere, but thought I would put it up here as well. Thank you for reading lovelies!

Disclaimer: I don't actually know if I need one of these because clearly I have zero claim on gods and whatever they get up to.

The flower sat on her bureau as a reminder of what they had been through and how much they meant to each other. Hades and Persephone had lived through trials and tribulations that were insurmountable in the eyes of many. They lived in two different worlds, but their love could overcome even the harshest of situations. The gold shown like freshly reaped wheat kernels and fluctuated in the changing light. The variability of their lives and changing situations always found a way to meld together if they tried hard enough to make the edges fit together. The delicate petals had edges that could draw blood. They were fashioned from the same wheat colored stem and two of the edges bore darkened spots where Persephone had gripped the flower too tightly.

The first time had been when she first received the gift and the second was when she thought she was going to lose the love of her life. The edges always reminded her that life was not all sunshine and wildflowers. Hades could never live in such a world though, so the flower also told her that her vernal sprightliness and his serious rigidity could coexist. This was underscored with the emerald stones set into the center of the flower. They were beautiful and came from Hades' own garden.

When the obstacles seemed intractable, Persephone only needed to think of the gift her husband had given her. It had been accompanied by a note that read only: Queen of the Spring, I beg thee to allow me a single moment to gaze unhindered upon your beauty. Meet me at the water's edge without your coterie tonight and all will be revealed. The mystery had intrigued her and the gifts she had been receiving were awe inspiring, so she had snuck out of her mother's home with only Selene to watch her progress.
