Prologue

Another day has gone by. Another sunset, another sunrise. I should be happy. Henrik is alive and safe. Kol and Fin are back from the dead. My family is reunited. We are finally together without Mikeal's presence haunting us. But something is missing. She is missing. To Klaus she was nothing, a means to an end if you'd like. She was his opportunity to kill Marcel and get his crown. But to me she was everything. Rebekah is the only one who seems affected from last week's events. She was after all the only true friend she ever had. And now she is gone. Gone, gone, gone. Seems like the only word that occupies my mind the past few days."Brother."I felt a hand on my back. I turned to face Klaus's unreadable expression."Henrik has been asking for you" he said. I nodded half smiling. Henrik missed her too. To him she was a sister and sometimes even a mother."Is he in this room?"I asked. Klaus nodded. I left the large fireplace and walked towards the beautiful wooden staircase that lead to the bedrooms."Elijah" Klaus's voice called. I stared in my brother's eyes waiting for his words."It wasn't your fault" he almost whispered. He looked at me tensely as if he was expecting me to yell or even cry. But I wouldn't and that he knew. I didn't bother to answer knowing that if I did I would lie so instead I walked to Henrik's room. "I know my sweetheart. She will come back. I know she will." Rebekah whispered from inside Henrik's chamber. I walked in only to face a teary Rebekah and a broken Henrik sitting on his bed. My heart broke at the sight. "Eli I thought you left us." Henkrik whimpered. I moved fast to hold the little child in my arms. " Never my boy. Never" I said huskily. His tiny hands wrapped tighly around my neck." Where is she Uncle? Where is Rosie?"he cried. For the first time in my immortal life I was left with no words. What could I possibly say to him? The truth, the painful truth or a convenient lie? Rebekah looked at me pleading me to lie."She left for a few days. She will come back" I sighed. His eyes immediately softened and a small smile appeared to his lips. There was hope written all over his face. Hope for someone who wouldn't come back. Ever.
