Sweaters

Kat looked up from her book, from her curled up position in the corner of the couch situated in just the right direction to get as much heat from the fireplace. She couldn't miss Tommy's bright smile and confident gait as he entered the living room with a shopping bag in hand.

"Hey," Kat said, putting her finger in the spine of her book to mark her spot.

"Hey." Tommy smiled back. He walked over to her and leaned down, kissing her quickly.

Kat eyed him warily, letting out a soft laugh. "Is something wrong, Tommy?"

"No." He sat next to her and placed the bag on the floor between his legs. "Why would something be wrong?"

"You went shopping," Kat pointed out. She tapped him on the wrist, lifting her eyebrows. "You hate to go shopping. It's a chore to even get you to go with me."

"Well, I was out getting some more black clothes," Tommy said, motioning to the turtleneck sweater he was wearing. He hadn't been a Dino Thunder ranger in a long time but black seemed to be the best color for him. "And I got you something."

Kat's smile widened and she set her book aside, resting it precariously on the arm of the couch. "You didn't have to get me anything."

"I know, but I saw it and immediately thought you'd like it," Tommy said. He handed the bag to her. Kat eagerly too it and started to pull out the stuffing inside. Feeling a sense of anxiety, Tommy immediately said, "Okay, I know I'm not so good with this stuff. But I really hope it's not that bad."

That made Kat pause in her movements. "This isn't going to jump out at me is it?"

"No! No." He rubbed his chin, entertaining the idea. "Though I should've thought of that."

Kat giggled and shoved him on the arm before pulling out a soft, baby pink turtle neck sweater with a bright orange leaf stitched to the front. She made a face, before quickly replacing it with a content expression. "It's lovely," she said.

Tommy lifted an eyebrow. "You hate it," he said.

"No, I don't…"

"I saw that face you made."

"I like the color, the leaf is just a little…much?" She phrased it as a question before reaching over and looped her arm through Tommy's, leaning against his side. She gave him a kiss on the cheek. "It's the thought that counts, right?"

"Yeah, right, I guess." The corner of Tommy's lips lifted in a smirk. "But I bet you're not going to take me shopping with you again, right?" Kat laughed and gave him another kiss before snuggling further into his side.

He was much warmer than the fireplace.
