Lucius sighed and folded the Daily Prophet he was reading. Not for the first time, he wished he was reading these daily headlines as someone from the outside, instead of being part of the reason they continued to print such dire news.
As he was about to lay the paper on the side table and take off his glasses, he glanced over the pictures that accompanied the large bold font, proclaiming, "DEATH EATERS RUIN WEASLEY WEDDING!" He lifted the paper from his lap and looked closer at the photo of Bill Weasley and his bride. In all the mayhem at the reception, he had not noticed Fleur Delacour's dress in person.
Lucius stood and sought out his wife. "Narcissa?" He poked his head out from the study and saw she was arranging flowers in the hallway. They had both promised to have a normal night at home, trying to forget the events swirling around them. Narcissa's delicate hands stilled and she gracefully turned around, giving him a smile. "Yes, dear husband?"
"Did you happen to notice Mrs. Weasley's wedding dress?" He held out the paper, pointing to the smiling couple waving to the camera.
Narcissa glanced down. "Yes, I did. She looked lovely."
"Lovely? I would say she has far more taste than you, Mrs. Malfoy."
"Oh?" Narcissa raised an eyebrow, knowing exactly to what her husband was referring. She had of course noticed the flowing white wedding dress adorned with two black peacocks on the bodice.
"Hm, yes. Perhaps you should visit her one day for some fashion advice," Lucius threw over his shoulder as we walked back into the study.
"Perhaps, I shall," Narcissa replied as she went back to organizing the long peacock feathers in her flower display. When she was done, she briefly fingered the scrap of paper in her pocket with the name and contact detail of a certain dressmaker she planned to owl later… She clung to the hope that in a few months they would be able to celebrate their anniversary together and she couldn't wait for the look on Lucius' face when she walked down the staircase in a flowing dress with peacocks on the bodice. Who would have thought that a Weasley would ever be a trendsetter?
Author's note: Technically, they are phoenixes on the wedding dress as a symbol of eternity, which makes so much more sense than peacocks. However, at first glance, I thought they were peacocks and it made for an interesting tale of Lucius' jealousy, so peacocks it is.
