For Every Action, There is a Reaction

Author's Notes: Another one-shot from me. It has an angsty undertone, some romance, but overall, just plain bonding.

Rated for implied sexual situations.

She stood tall. But she didn't feel proud. She was just there to give the support that she needed. And she will, no matter how wrong she felt the whole situation was.

It didn't matter who was in the wrong. The fact was, both of them consented to it. And both should bear the consequences of their one moment of weakness.

She had always thought that she had low tolerance for alcohol. And the procession now being held just proved how low it was to glean this result.

They were only nineteen. Nineteen! Just two years passed after their graduation. She knew she felt broken, useless, unworthy. But she wasn't.

How could she tell her now that she shouldn't have contemplated too much on her status in life? How could she tell her that she shouldn't rush things because she will meet her match when the time was right? How could she tell her that she actually thought they were a match? That if the circumstances were different, they would be willing participants and eager?

"Padma?" she uttered, careful not to startle her.

She looked up and smiled softly. "Yes, Parvati?"

She giggled. "Why are we calling each other by our whole names?"

"I don't know... Perhaps the situation calls for it?" she answered, effectively changing the mood back to serious.

She nodded, then moved to embrace her twin. "We're going to be ok, won't we?" she whispered to her ear.

"We?"

She nodded again. "Yes."

She hugged her tighter. "We will," she whispered back, conviction creeping into her voice.

They separated and as Parvati started to walk down the aisle ahead of her, she turned back to her twin and mouthed, "I love you."

Padma blinked back the tears threatening to fall and mouthed back, "I love you, too."

Parvati smiled and turned back to the front, her gaze sweeping the guests, and resting to her sister's husband-to-be. She glared at him, telling him without words that although she was known to be smarter and more knowledgeable, she did have a few tricks up her sleeves if he ever misbehaved. She was vastly pleased when she saw him widen then rolled his eyes in response before staring stonily at her. Her sister will be in good hands.

She turned and waited at the side as Padma walked, her gown just shy of being pure white. She stole a glance at the groom and noticed that he had an almost content face as he watched.

At long last, she stood next to the groom, facing the altar, and everyone hushed.

"Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today in the presence of these witnesses, to join Zacharias and Padma in holy matrimony..."

End.
