Summary-A man tries to pick up a pretty redhead

Feedback-Not necessary

Disclaimer-I only own Patrick, unfortunately.

I've never been one for redheads; I usually gravitate towards tall, leggy, brunettes. That's why I was surprised when this petite red-haired woman caught my attention. At first glance you know she's a professional woman. Tailored black pants, tailored black jacket, and impossibly high heels. But upon closer inspection you see more than that. Her shoulder-length hair is loose and wavy. Her sapphire-colored shirt brings out her eyes and reveals a hint of cleavage. The most inviting thing though is her body language. She's relaxed and comfortable, so I make my move. She's sitting at the bar signaling for another drink as I make my way over.

"Another ice tea, please." She asks the man with a smile. So she's not a big drinker, that's okay.

"Hi, I'm Patrick." I say as I slide onto the stool next to her and stick out my hand. She looks at me curiously for a second and then shakes my hand.

"I'm Dana." She replies with a small smile.

"I was just wondering what a lovely lady like you was doing here all alone." Time to pour on the charm.

"I was just waiting for someone." I glance quickly ay her left hand. There's no wedding ring, so I still have a chance.

"Would you like some company while you wait?" I smile my best smile and I can feel her melt.

"Sure, no problem."

"So, what do you do?" It's important to make them the center of the conversation. You need to seem truly interested. Although pretending will work just as well.

"Well, I'm a doctor, but I teach Pathology at Quantico."

"Quantico? What's that?"

"It's the FBI Training Academy."

"FBI, wow. Smart, strong, and beautiful. You're a triple threat." The comment has the desired effect and she blushes slightly. This is way too easy. Just when she's about to speak again, the bartender comes to take my drink order. I decided to forgo the alcohol just yet and choose a safer drink.

"Can I have a Barq's please?" She laughs for a second before composing herself.

"What's so funny?" I ask wondering when root beer became humorous.

"It's an old joke. Sorry."

"It's okay, you should laugh more though. You're even more beautiful when you laugh." She blushes again, and I'm about to seal the deal when a little redheaded boy runs at her.

"Mommy!" He calls out as she picks him up. I turn around and notice a tall, good-looking man coming towards us. Ex-husband maybe.

"Hey Mulder." She calls out. What kind of name is Mulder?

"Sorry I'm late. Will decided he was going to change his clothes all by himself." He stands behind Dana and kisses her neck. So much for sealing the deal. Damn.

"Mulder, this is Patrick, he was kind enough to keep me company." He wraps his arm around her waist, indicating that she belongs to him and I know I have no chance.

"It was nice to meet you." I say politely as I slide off the stool.

"Nice to meet you too." Dana responds with a genuine smile while 'Mulder' just nods.

I turn around and make my way towards the door. I'm still close enough to hear 'Mulder' ask, "Should I be jealous Scully?" What kind of nickname is that?

She laughs and I can hear her reply, "He ordered root beer Mulder. You know how I feel about root beer."

I turn back around before I reach the door and see him picking up her drink.

"If there's ice tea in there, it could be love." He says with a smile.

"Must be fate."

Guess I'll stick to brunettes from now on, redheads are too much trouble.
