A/N: This is a short song-fic that I made as a present for Pendragon.P a s s i o n, because she is sick and feels like crap.
I'm not very happy with this.. :/ Ohwells, you tell me.
The song is Tiny Heart (Demo) by Flyleaf, and I thought it was a good song for Halt and Pauline.. :)
I hope you enjoy it ;D
Disclaimer: Noooo :( Go talk to John Flanagan.
Tiny heart, stuck inside yourself
When will you open for me
I love you so
I wanna meet you again
Before one of us must go
Halt had heard Pauline coming long before she actually came, but he couldn't help starting a bit as she put a soft hand on his cloaked shoulder.
"Do you mind if I join you?"
The courier sat on the fallen log beside the Ranger, and together they watched a young apprentice shooting at targets from a long distance with his new longbow.
"He's gotten good." She said, letting a small smile to play across her face.
If Pauline was hoping for conversation, she was sorely disappointed. All she received was a small grunt.
Your lips touched every hand but mine
In their shadows you slept fine
When will you get back to me
So we can rest
So she went back to watching Will.
The boy had changed since his adventure in Skandia, and so had his mentor.
They both shared experience that brought them closer together, past the mentor/student line and into the father/son relationship. Even if Will was oblivious to it…
And Halt…
Halt was the gruff, scary Ranger that no one dared approach. No one really understood, and Pauline had always had a soft spot for him, even if no other maid or Courier in the fief (or any) did.
Tiny heart, you're not by yourself
When will you recognize the beat?
Of my own heart
Making you blood flow
So that your chest can rise and fall
"You've done well. With both Gilan and Will." She attempted again, leaning into him a little so that their arms were barely touching.
Another grunt.
If she wasn't trained to hide her emotions at the best of times, she probably would've sighed in frustration. But she didn't.
"If you're busy, I don't want to interrupt." She stood up briskly, trying to hide her hurt, and was about to smooth down her silver Courier robes with her hand, when a larger, coarser one caught it.
"Don't go."
Your lips touched every hand but mine
In their shadows you slept fine
When will you get back to me
So we can rest
So they sat there, staring through the trees, in a now comfortable silence. It was an unfamiliar feeling, holding her soft hand as she leaned against him.
He hoped they never had to move.
You will never know what you have done to me
You will never know losing love from me
You will never know a single day alone
"I love you…"
She almost jumped up in shock. Nothing had prepared her for this, even though she had wished it for many years. It seemed much more real now it was here.
"I love you too, Halt."
She hoped this feeling never went away.
When you choose me
I'm waiting for you
Always waiting
