As Near was sitting at the kitchen table twirling his snowy hair, he heard faint footsteps. He froze, thinking he would be caught the only one awake. After all, it was two thirty in the morning. He then heard the clicking of the metal doorknob.

"Shh, we don't want anyone hearing…" Near heard someone whisper followed by another soft shush. As Near heard the footsteps draw closer, he soon found someone peering at him. Near saw Mello half hidden by a wall with Matt behind him. They stopped in their tracks.

"Mello?" Near said, pulling at his hair. "Matt?"

"Uh, hi Near." Matt mumbled.

"Near? What the hell are you doing here?" Mello whispered.

"I must ask the same for you two." Near said loudly. Mello shushed Near sharply.

"You don't want anyone hearing, right?" Matt whispered, slowly moving to the cabinets.

"No one is awake, Matt." Near said. In the slightly dark kitchen, Near saw Mello roll his eyes and proceed to the cabinets as well. Near watched as Matt and Mello were taking out all the candy and sweets. Did they do this every night? They managed to take everything out without making a single sound.

CA CHUNK!

The sudden noise made everyone jump. It was a loud sound that the three boys were certain it would wake anyone up. Matt and Mello scanned the room for the source of noise. Their eyes fell on a shiny metal toaster with a freshly toasted piece of bread in it.

"Ooh, so Near is hungry too," Mello said, ripping open a new chocolate bar. "Now that I think of it, I've never seen Near eat before." Near stared at Mello, but if you squint really hard, it was more of a glare. Matt laughed nervously.

"Whenever I hear a toaster sound, I always jump." Near explained. "I'm trying to see if I am able to not jump."

"Those are just reflexes." Mello explained, taking a bite out of the chocolate.

"I know that. I'm just testing myself." Near stood up from the wooden chair and pressed the switch down again without bothering to take out the bread. Mello and Matt looked at each other and shrugged. A few seconds passed. Mello kept telling himself to not flinch and the same goes for Matt. The kitchen started smelling of smoke.

CA CHUNK!

Everyone flinched.

"This is stupid." Mello said and walked out of the room with Matt following like a puppy. Near was still standing by the counter next to the toaster. He looked at the highly burnt toast and slowly took it out and checked to see if Matt and Mello were gone.

Then he stuffed the burnt toast in his mouth in one swift motion. He silently ambled out of the room.

The next morning, Roger had a strong feeling something was missing besides the candy. All the bread was gone, but his brand new toaster was broken.

Heheh. It's a dumb idea for a story, yes I know xD I don't expect any reviews or faves, but I would be happy if you could leave one, flame or not. But not too flamey. ^^ thanks for reading.
