This story was inspired by another story I read on here. Any similarities to this work and the other by Zero-Hime is pure coincidence. The story is called Faded Moments. Read it if you like. I was inspired, I do not mean to steal the idea or claim it as my own. So with out further ado, here is the story.

It all happened so fast. At one moment, we were skating, laughing, having fun. The next, my little sister is standing unsteadily on top of cracking ice.

I stood, safe, in front of her. I hoped with all my might that she wouldn't fall through. I couldn't let her die, not on my watch.

She looked frightened, knowing that if she fell through the ice, she would die. Our mother only told us about a million times. She looked up at me. "Jack . . . I'm scared," She said. I could see her trying to be brave, fighting back tears.

"I know, I know. But . . . Your gonna be alright." I said, opening up my arms to her. I had taken off my ice skates to get a better hold of where I walked. I was better without shoes, more comfortable.

"Would I trick you?" I asked, putting on a phony smile, trying my best to keep fear out of my voice. I was probably just as scared as her. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know how to get her off the thin ice without jeopardizing both of our lives.

"Yes, you always play tricks!" My sister said, losing her balance for a second. Her voice shook ever so slightly when she said those words. It tore at my heart thinking that she might not be here tomorrow. No! I wouldn't let that happen.

"Well, not-not this time," I said, not meaning to trip over my words. I didn't want to let her know that I was worried. That would only scare her more. An idea popped into my head just then. "We're going to have a little fun, instead," I said, still holding my hands out to her. "We're going to play hop-scotch, like we always do." She stared at me and let out her breath, worried.

I hopped forward. "One," I said. The ice cracked underneath my foot. I cringed but quickly covered it up and pretended to loose my balance, overdramatically. "Whoa!" I said with a smile. I jumped again, hopping over to a crooked stick I saw off to the side. "Two." I pretended to loose my balance again and my sister laughed nervously. "Three," I said grabbing the stick.

"Now it's your turn," I said. "One." She slid her foot forward and the ice cracked under her foot. I continued on because I knew there wasn't much time left. "Two." She slid her other foot forward. "Three!" I said. She stepped forward one more time, terrified. I reached the crooked staff over to her as soon as I said three. I hooked it around her waist and threw her and the stick off to thicker ice. The momentum of the swing launched me over to the thin ice.

I looked over at my sister and she was safe! I smiled at her. She looked up at me and smiled back. I was about to stand up when I heard a crack and the ice underneath me disappeared.

I fell into frigid ice. I clawed at the water, trying to get back up. All I could see was the full moon. I didn't think much of it then. Soon the water froze my body to the point of where I couldn't move. My body shivering violently had taken all the energy out of me. My vision blurred and the moon glowed bright. I couldn't think, except for the fact that my sister was safe. I slipped away happily on the note that my sister could walk home and live a long happy life.

The last thing I saw was the moon's rays extending toward me. The last thing I heard was my sister calling my name. "Jack!"

Ok so this was purely from memory, so I hope I got all of the dialogue correct! My computer decided it didn't want to work! So yeah, there you have it! Hope you like. My first RoTG fic! Again, I didn't mean to steal ANYTHING from Zero-Hime. Sorry if you feel I did. I was inspired by your story (if your even reading this). I hope this was decent. It was really short! Review?
