Genre: Angst
Spoilers: Only "Children of the Gods pt II"
Summary: He's lost him.
He sees Skaara from afar, catching the dusty cloak and black dreads against the shimmering wall of the open wormhole.
His son's hair shines in the sun. He's looking the wrong way for the car.
"No, no no no...," he whispers. Before he can think, he's running down the embankment, Kawalski's warning nothing but noise.
Charlie turns around and Jack doesn't even hear the chauffeur's goodbye. His son is warm and heavy in his arms. He's happy to see his boy, but turns down the game of catch. He's also exhausted. All he wants to do is relax with Sara.
"Skaara!" He shouts finally, desperation clear and he really doesn't care how this looks to the others. A fear he hadn't felt in over a year has him in it's grip and he can't shake it.
Charlie runs inside, somewhat let down. Jack has a sudden idea; he'll take him to the big game next week. Dominic owes him some free tickets.
Shaara turns, and for a moment his smile is mischievous and so very Skaara that Jack thinks the alien creatures don't do whatever it is they do until they leave the planet. Then his eyes flash and Jack is thrown five feet backwards.
He hears Charlie thunder up the stairs like an elephant and chuckles. Sara gives him a sideways hug.
The young Abydosian turns back, mocking smile on his face, and walks towards the gate. The light, even in the daytime, casts an unearthly glow over his body. And then he is gone.
A feeling of unease begins in Jack's stomach. He doesn't know why, though. There is no danger here, not at home.
The gate shuts.
The sound of a bullet rips the air.
He stands in the field with an empty ache in his chest.
He's lost him.
