Damn holiday music!
Not only were they jolly but they were all about holly. Gail knew that the holly Michael Bublé was singing about was not her Holly, but still. Holly, holly, fricken holly. It felt like that is all she had been hearing about for the last month.
And here was Dov humming along and grinning from ear to ear. Damn him, damn Olive for making her sit here in the squad car all damn day for this damn drug dealer.
All she wanted to do was go back to her apartment and pretend like the world out side did not exist. Specifically the world where Holly wasn't just a plant but and actual person that wasn't there.
Holly had left and had not come back. Why was she still thinking about her?! Sure everytime a person turned on the radio you couldn't get away but why could Gail still smell her and feel her?
She sighed and looked at the clock. 8pm on Christmas Eve and she was in a car with Dov who was singing about holly. Damn her life. Atleast she only had 1 more hour, she could just sit there and not think about ho... nothing, think about nothing.
The minutes passed slowly as the snow fell and finally the next patrol showed and they were able to take off. Gail drove back to the station got dressed and headed, only stopping to give Olive his Christmas prestent, a mom mug.
Finally! She signed in releaf as she crossed her door step. Some boubon and a bath were in her near future. Gail started the bath and went to the kitchen to pour herself a glass and heat up some pizza for balance when the door bell rang.
"Who the fuck?" Gail took the 4 steps to the door and swung the door open ready to give the person on the other side a piece of her mind when the world stopped.
There was Holly, slightly disheveled clutching a small duffel bag.
"Hey" Holly said only slightly looking at Gail, "I know it's late and you probably don't want me here but I had to come back. I've missed you, I've missed the city, my family, friends, my life... but mostly I've missed you. I shouldn't have left, i should have been here for you, with Steve, with Sophie. Are you ok. I should..."
"Stop talking nerd," Gail interrupted and then just stood there looking at Holly. Her Holly not the plant, Holly that look deflated and was now turning away.
"You know, it's true what they say"
"What?" Holly asks turning back to Gail.
"The prettiest sight to see, is the holly that will be on your own front door."
