Does what it says on the tin. One time in each book/film when Hermione wanted to go in Harry's place.

I've used both book and film because I think some moments are better in the films and some in the books. You get it. I hope you enjoy.

I don't own Harry Potter. It's less embarrassing to be on the Tumblr tag 24/7 that way.

one.

'You'll be okay, Harry. You're a great wizard, you really are.'

'Not as good as you.'

'Me? Books and cleverness? There are more important things. Friendship, bravery.'

That was the trouble with eleven-year-old Hermione. Her brain and her heart were the same size and thus, her battle between the two was on-going. Whereas Ron and Harry nearly always followed their hearts, her brain normally won.

She felt like a Ravenclaw amongst Gryffindors and it was the worst pain in the world, second only to watching Harry walk away into the last challenge to save the Stone.

two.

If Hermione had been confidant enough to fly a broomstick without fear of killing herself and injuring others, she would have readily taken up the position of reserve Seeker for that Quidditch match in her second year.

She would have forced herself to take Gryffindor to victory herself if it meant Harry would've pulled out of the game, because then she could be one getting knocked about by a bludger right now.

She would have done whatever it took because she had no intention of seeing the mad black ball smashing into him, of watching her closest friend fall from his broom, tumbling towards the ground, no one to save him, the crowd screaming, no, no, not Harry Potter, not the Boy who Lived, he can't die, why didn't his friend Hermione Granger save him, why didn't she go instead of him, how selfish can you get—

She was terrified. She wasn't to know Dobby was trying to save Harry's life, just like she wanted to.

three.

When she got her Hogwarts letter. 'Expecto—'

You're a freak, a icy little voice hisses, you're parents probably don't love you half as much anymore.

What it felt like to punch Draco Malfoy. 'Expecto—'

You hit someone, it croons, that's really cruel.

Marrying Ron. 'Expecto—'

Why would he ever love you?

Her knees buckle and her cheek touches the frozen ground.

So much for the brightest witch of your age. You failed your best friend.

She closes her eyes against the cold and the heartbreak.

four.

She should have gone into the maze.

five.

When he walks out of the portrait hole for the eighth night running to go to another of Umbridge's detentions, she has to pile several heavy books onto her lap to stop herself from going with him. It might upset Ron, and she hasn't been spending a lot of time with him recently, and Harry would just tell her to go back.

She wants to go to Harry's detention. She'll happily mutilate her hand if it means he doesn't go through this torture. Whatever Umbridge makes her write.

I must not read books before the rest of the class. I must not be an insufferable know-it-all. I must not be at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry because I'm just a filthy little mudblood.

Whatever Umbridge wants her to write. Because Harry is not a liar.

six.

She wanted to go with Ginny to get rid of the Half-Blood Prince's book. Harry looked humiliated and nauseated and miserable every time he laid eyes on it and she despises his pain.

seven.

'I'll go with you.'
