Early morning (GMT+7) - 6th July 2013 - Sleep Away The Pain / JoEllie FatherDaughter moments
Updated 10th of July 2013 - In-depth feeling/thoughts from Joel
It starts with very tiring and eventful day; trying to cross that bandits-full outskirt of Pittsburgh, risking Ellie's and their two new sandbags—people—that he considered a burden—will slow them down. Heartless bastard he is, as long as he—and Ellie of course—can survive, he doesn't care about those people.
They managed to get in to a safer place though, at dusk, but it all ends when dawn came, they found out one of their companion was infected. After Henry killed Sam himself, he committed suicide. Decided that he'd be better accompanying his brother to afterlife than living with no real purpose. Nah—it still doesn't get the better of him. Henry and Sam doesn't accompany him long enough to have a place in his heart.
As much as he hate to admits it, his heart couldn't turn down a little intimate (as in socially—not romantically) interaction from another human being. It ease his mind and keep his sanity intact.
Still, turns of events caused Ellie to go in to a "bad mood and distant mode" as he called it.
Joel isn't complaining, but it feels strange, he finally realizes, that Ellie would just stay quiet and only nods when he said one or two things to her. She usually—with her natural upbringing—complains or throws sarcasm a lot here and there but none of it today.
After they had their dinner in one of abandoned small flat, she went to bed early, leaving Joel with his thoughts alone, staring blankly in to the ceiling up ahead.
He was no mentalist and he doesn't want to be one. But he couldn't dissipate the feelings he experienced when suddenly Ellie grows distant. He needs to sort his own thoughts. Isn't this bad? Shouldn't he feels despise towards her? She's another burden. But she's his new purpose, goal, to keep surviving in this post apocalyptic-horrible world. Isn't this the sign that she starts growing on him?
"No—no, no..."
His ears picked up a sound—like a murmurs that came from across the room he was sleeping in. Where Ellie has been sleeping for almost two hours. He equipped his Revolver, positioned himself standing beside the door, ready, if he hears another thing—
Screams filled his ears; "JOEL!? NO—NOOOOO!"
He burst in to her room and found Ellie in fetal position on the couch, squirming and whimpering, tears streaked down her face.
"I can't lose you Joel... Not like this... No..."
She's having a nightmare, like children always do, sometimes.
He forgot that Ellie is just a kid, no matter how mature sometimes she can be when faced with a lot of horrible situations.
Joel stared. He put his Revolver away, and embrace the shackled little girl. Just tonight, he would hold her dear—his doesn't-want-to-get-too-attached-heart be damned—humming lullaby songs, letting her sleep away the pain, the sorrow.
"Sssh... Baby girl," He whispered, swaying his own body back and forth to calm that little girl in his hands.
Indeed, she starts growing on him even though he doesn't realize it.
Fin.
Notes: it's kinda pointless, but pointless things is great, you wouldn't get hurt so easily that way.
I'm sorry for grammar mistakes. This is my fourth attempt on writing English fanfics (shouldn't you be improved by now?).
Umm review? *winkwink
