Don't own characters or the song
Axel's phone ringing woke him up like it had been doing for the past week at 6:03 in the morning. The Caller I.D., Roxas. Axel left the phone on his dresser while he considered what Roxas would be hearing right now.
Don't tell me the reason that you're calling
Is to see if I'm all right since you've been gone
'Cause I know you and I know why we're talking
You're wanting me to say I'm barely hanging on
Well, maybe that was true for a night or two
But now, I got better things to do
Axel climbed into his car and revved the engine, peeling off down the street in his new Lamborghini Murcielago. It was time to wash off the mud that covers it from tire to roof. After that it was to Demyx's shop to get new strings for his guitar, then off to band practice.
As he was entering the stage room they had rented for practice his phone rang. Caller I.D. Roxas. Axel put the phone back in his pocket and smiled at what his ring back tone was.
I could wash my car in the rain
Change my new guitar strings
Mow the yard just the same as I did yesterday
I don't need to waste my time crying over you
I got better things to do
Tour dates had to be set for the band, Axel needed to arrange it around his, Riku's, Zexion's and Marluxia's college schedules. He needed to replace the high hat on the drum set, find a cheaper place to buy text books and finish recording their latest album.
As he rushed into the college his phone rang, blaring through Student Services. Caller I.D. Roxas. With a smirk he let it ring, hoping Roxas enjoyed what he was hearing.
Maybe when I don't have so much going
Or quite so many irons in the fire
I'll take the time to miss you like you're hoping
But now, I can't put forth the effort it requires
Well, I'd love to talk to you, but then, I'd miss Donahue
That's right, I got better things to do
Axel wiped the sweat from his forehead as the crowd screamed and chanted. He motioned for silence, waving his hands and was surprised when he got it.
"This next song is originally a country song by Terri Clark, but I found I have a particular attachment to it and I want to share it with someone who's out there listening." He felt his phone vibrate and knew that the caller I.D. would read Roxas. All Axel had to say was . . .
I could wash my car in the rain
Change my new guitar strings
Mow the yard just the same as I did yesterday
I don't need to waste my time crying over you
I got better things to do
Check the air in my tires
Straighten my stereo wires
Count the stars in the sky or just get on with my life
I don't need to waste my time crying over you
I got better things to do
I got better things to do
