While standing on a ladder, you drop a paintbrush from a height of 25 feet. After how many seconds does the paintbrush land on the ground? (the answer is 1.25)

"Hey Elmer," Davey called, walking inside the lodging house. "Has anyone seen Jack?"

"He's on the roof," Albert hollered.

"Being an angsty teenager," Race snickered. "He and Precious Katherine got into an argument, so Mr. Santa Fe is upstairs in his penthouse being antisocial. You're welcome to try and talk to him if you'd like. I don' recommend it." He turned back to the game of Spite and Malice he was playing with Albert, Crutchie, Elmer, and Romeo. Davey shrugged and continued walking towards the stairs.

"Oh, and Davey?" Race called. "Stairs is off limits right now."

"Why?" Davey asked.

"I mean, if you wanna freeze to death, go ahead," Crutchie laughed. "Elmer and I set up a bit of a 'refreshing shower system' one might say." Davey laughed.

"Good to know. Off the record, I hope it goes well." He started towards the door as the rest of the boys continued their game, a loud "Crutchie!" echoing behind him. Seems like Crutchie beat Albert again. Davey walked out the door—and was immediately hit with a paintbrush. Jack's head peeked over the railing.

"Go away," he called. He surreptitiously dropped a second paintbrush, which landed on Davey's shoulder a little over a second later, smearing paint all over his blue shirt.

"But we have a surprise for you," Davey called, an idea forming in his mind. "The guys want you to come inside to the dorm."

"Fine," Jack sighed, clambering over the railing. Davey dashed inside.

"Everyone hide!" he called as loudly as he dared. "We're 'surprising' Jack with Crutchie's new invention!" The boys made themselves scarce in record time as Jack walked through the door. "Right this way, good sir," Davey said loudly. Jack raised his eyebrows and began to walk up the stairs… triggering a hidden tripwire. Freezing water drenched his shirt. He slowly turned around and glared at no one in particular.

Newsies slowly began to emerge from behind the furniture, all keeping their faces as innocent as possible.

Then, a quiet snicker escaped Crutchie's mouth, and chaos broke loose.
