Lizzie Bennet in the TARDIS
The camera was off. The room was quiet. Charlotte was long gone. And Elizabeth Bennet was all alone.
Here last video blog had gone live half an hour before. She was tempted to check the comments. She was tempted to check her Twitter. For the moment, however, Lizzie chose to sit in silence in the living room.
"MEOW!" Kitty hopped up into Lizzie's lap and kneaded her stomach. Lizzie scratched her behind the ears and smiled as Kitty started to purr.
"Hello Kitty, haven't really seen you in a little while. Where have you been little buddy?"
"Meow."
"Is that so? And how was that?"
"Meooooow!"
"You are so ador" –
"HISS!" Kitty's angry noise interrupted Lizzie's compliment. The cat leapt from her lap and skittered out of the room. Before Lizzie could wonder what had come over the cat, a loud whirring noise overtook the silence.
Instead of hiding or running like a normal person probably would have, Lizzie's first instinct was to turn on her camera. She slapped it on and pointed the lens in the direction of the noise. Just as the camera clicked on, a large blue box materialized in the middle of the room. A second after that, the door on it slipped open, and a man's head, neck, and bow tie popped out of it.
"Oh dear!" the man cried, "I didn't mean to land in the middle of your house! I can't always control the landings. Sorry about that."
"Um, that's okay?" Lizzie said unsurely, lowering her camera slightly so that it wasn't in front of her face.
"I'm the Doctor, by the way!" he exclaimed brightly. "And you're Lizzie Bennet! I LOVE your videos! How's Darcy? Is Lydia okay? What about that Gigi girl? I liked her quite a lot. And Fitz! He was such a character! Reminded me of my friend Jack a bit." The man stopped talking and just grinned at her. He seemed to almost quiver with excitement.
"Look, I know you said that you're the Doctor, but that doesn't really tell me anything. Who are you, and what is that thing?" Lizzie waved her free hand towards the blue box.
"I'm a Time Lord, and that's my TARDIS! We travel through space and time. I just finished up watching your video blog and decided to pop in."
"Wait – so are you a Martian or something?"
"NO WAY!" the Doctor exploded. "I'm not from Mars. I'm from Gallifrey. Time Lord, not Martian."
Lizzie let out a huge breath. "And that thing is a time machine?"
"And it travels through space! I swear, you've gotten slower since kissing that Darcy fellow."
"HEY!"
"Come travel with me, Lizzie, and I'll have you clever again in no time! Some of my cleverness is bound to rub off on you." The Doctor stepped all the way out of the TARDIS and held the door open for her.
"You just insulted me, and you want me to get in there with you?" The look on Lizzie's face made it clear that she thought he was absurd.
The Doctor nodded. "Oh come on! I could take you to when YouTube is in 3-D! Or we could go visit the Bronte sisters or that Austen woman! The universe is at your fingertips.
"Fine! I'll come! I have to be back by tonight, though. I'm going out with Lydia, Charlotte, and Darcy." With a slight shake of her head, Lizzie Bennet stepped into the TARDIS, camera still in hand.
"Welcome to my TARDIS, Miss Lizzie Bennet! Yes, yes, it is bigger on the inside. Now, where would you like to go?"
Lizzie extended a single finger towards the Doctor as her eyes darted around the inside of the ship. "Hold on just a moment, Doctor." Lizzie turned the camera around so that ther face was in the shot. "My name is Lizzie Bennet, and I'm in the TARDIS!"
The End
