Moving On

This fic is for Rem onee-chan on tumblr, otherwise known as itsuky. 3

At first, I wrote this as a gift one-shot, but I really want to make into a story... Well, then, it's decided.

Constructive criticism is always welcome, and I would really appreciate it if anyone can leave a review.

I just hope it's not that all OOC. D:

Perhaps… it was never meant to be that way between us.

Silence was the only word that registered in her mind. The room, dimly lit, only added to her melancholy mood. Several pictures hung on the wall, most of them featuring her l'cie family, some of which who were present in her bedroom.

"Serah."

She smiled faintly, recognizing the deep, yet boyish voice that she grew accustomed to over the years. But would it, like the other voices she once heard at least once a day, disappear?

"I'm fine, Hope."

It was, of course, a lie. Serah didn't really like to keep things away from others, but… sometimes it was for the best. And knowing Hope Estheim, the boy who eventually became someone she could relate with, a younger brother, Serah felt a need to lie.

Seeing him so close to everyone… Losing them after… It must be hard on him.

"No, Serah…"

She couldn't recall how many days Lightning and Snow had left her. She couldn't find a good reason to, and it only added on to the unbearable pain, furthermore, if Hope were to vanish from her life…

"Light… She'll come back. Snow, too."

Serah remained silent. Snow. The name had once meant the world to her, but now that he was gone… She just didn't feel like he really was all she needed.

"I don't miss the both of them anymore."

She could see Hope's eyes widening. Was it wrong? She felt so… heartless about realizing that Snow and her sister were no longer necessary in her life, but it was true.

More like, I don't need them now. I feel like… they're in the past.

"Serah. Stop denying it, I know you're not feeling fine."

Hope was right. Serah wasn't feeling perfect, but… she still felt a lot better than when the both of them had first disappeared.

"I know. But I feel… empty for not thinking I need them back in my life."

Serah closed her eyes, sliding her head onto Hope's lap. "Isn't it wrong? Snow saved me… and yet I feel like this. What am I supposed to do?"

"Don't lose faith, Serah. If it's going to be that way… why not accept it?"

Serah could sense Hope flashing her a warm grin, even if her eyes were closed. His smiles were always so gentle, so humble…

Unlike Snow's confident, bright one.

Serah clenched her jaw. What would he say to her, once he understood her relationship with Hope? Sure, it wasn't official yet, but there were implied hints here and there…

And worse, Hope's younger than me…
