"I don't like her.", I growled as we left the game store. Matt was absorbed in examining the memory card he'd just bought. He shrugged. "She seemed nice enough.", he said without really looking up. The "she" I was referring to was the cashier at the store, who had been shamelessly flirting with Matt the entire time we were in there. And it really pissed me off. But, what I couldn't figure out was…..why? Why should I be upset simply because someone was flirting with Matt? Maybe I was…..No! No way was I jealous! I mean I knew Matt had to have a life outside video games and computer hacking. Then, why did I still feel this way?
Matt must have noticed my somewhat sullen mood because he slipped the memory card into his pocket and turned to face me. "What's wrong?", he asked. I looked at him. Even through the goggles I could see curiosity in his eyes. I sighed inwardly. Had the redhead been completely oblivious to that girl back there? "Nothing.", I said, managing to keep the venom out of my voice. Matt, who had been walking backwards so that he was facing me, stopped. "Mello, what's wrong?", he asked again, this time a bit more serious. I looked at his eyes. Big mistake. For God only knows what reason, I couldn't lie to the man before me. "Were you too absorbed in the game selection to notice that girl?", I asked, allowing some ice to creep into my tone. Matt blinked. "That's what's bothering you? 'Cause some random chick was hitting on me?", he asked, tilting his head in a very puppy-like fashion. I frowned and continued walking around him. He quickly caught up to me, that annoying smirk on his face. "Aw, Mel, are you jealous?", he asked, sounding infuriatingly smug. "Why on Earth would I be jealous?", I snapped.
Matt just smirked wider. I hate it when he does that. Acting all high and mighty. Well, I'll show him. I turned quickly and crashed my lips onto his. The smirk instantly disappeared. Matt tensed up. Oh God. What have I done? Hell just froze over, 'cause I'm kissing Matt! He's gonna hate me after this. I pulled back, stammering out excuses. Then, the unexpected happened. Matt wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close to his chest. He smirks for a split second before…kissing me! Our lips were in perfect synch, matching each other like puzzle pieces. Great, now I'm thinking cliché thoughts. Stupid redhead. Stupid, wonderful, redhead. So this is why I was mad. I'm in love with Matt. I felt like laughing with the realization. I draped my arms around his neck. When he pulled back for air, I mumbled against his lips. "You're mine, Matt and don't forget it." I swear I saw that annoying, but now strangely adorable, smirk creep across his lips before they were locked together with mine again. He was mine and I was his. My world was perfect.
