Under A Midnight Sky
AN:I've wanted to write this for a long time and I am so happy that I finally did, please give me feedback so I can make my writing better. And yes I know the title sucks, but I'm not good at them.
Rin was shaking.
She trembled, her form racked with sobs, her eyes red and swollen, tear tracks staining her cheeks.
Her sensei, Minato, just held her and watched with solemn eyes. He knew that there was nothing he could say, nothing he could do, to make this better.
He could do nothing to rid her of the image of her best friend's broken body, only half visible in the rubble, the blood leaking from under the rocks, and the calm acceptance he displayed in the face of death, still doing everything he could to protect his team. He could do nothing to rid her of the memory of her teammates blood on her hands, as she removed his eye.
He could do nothing to help her with these images and thoughts that would haunt her dreams until the day she joined him on the other side.
And even he was fighting back the urge to follow his student's example and just cry, but he didn't, because tears wouldn't bring him back.
Nothing would.
Rin shook her head and tried to gasp for air in between her sobs," H-he's looking out for me, right? Wherever he is, he's going to look out for me."
Even unsure as he was if that had been a question or a statement, the Yellow Flash gently turned his student around and gestured towards the heavens, " He already is."
Rin turned her gaze to where her sensei's hand pointing, and she saw it.
She must have looked upon the night sky an infinite number of times, knowing it and the stars that rested upon the midnight canvas, but she had never seen it look as beautiful as it did then.
Every star glowed with a renewed intensity, the moon shined with an aura that she had only ever felt from his smile, and the canvas they all rested in was just the shade of darkness his hair had been.
The wind blew through all of a sudden, just a breeze as it ruffled their clothes and tousled their hair. And she heard it. His laughter echoing on the breeze, the scent that was just so uniquely him brought to her nose.
For the first time since the horrific mission began, she smiled and let out a light laugh. Her tears were still tears of sorrow, but now they were tinged with hope.
She was going to be alright, after all, Obito was looking out for her.
