I stepped into the wide clearing. The sun shone through the trees just in time to set, and my skin sparkled like a million diamonds. I sighed. No matter how many times I saw this, I couldn't help being amazed by it. I took in a deep breath and smelt the fresh pine. Winter must of just finished. That's good, I like summer better anyway. As I turned my head back to the sun a high soprano laugh rang through the air.
"Ella! Ella, Ella!" Renesmee squealed. My head snapped back to her and a wide smile grew on my face. I looked at Renesmee. She was wearing a little beige dress making her cheeks look even brighter. Her light, bronze ringlets hung to her waist now, she was the size of an eight year old. She wore little white flats. She was more portioned than an eight year old should be, let alone a two year old. I felt a sharp pang of guilt as I realized I had just missed her birthday by five days.
"Ella! Your back! I thought you'd be longer. I missed you uncontrollably" she continued. I rushed to her and she hugged my waist. I could feel the tears soaking into my white silk dress. I patted her back as I thought. Why did she have to miss me so much? I wasn't that important, was I? Why did she have to be like this when ever I came home? It just made it harder. "Where were you?" she asked me suddenly
"So you're talking now, huh?" I asked, avoiding her question. She jumped back around three yards and rolled her eyes. She was just like Edward when she did that.
"I don't know, I just couldn't keep it in!" she squealed again. She ran back and hugged me again, tighter this time
I'm so glad she's back! I wonder where she's been?
"Did you just say something?" I asked suddenly
"No, why?" she asked, anxious. I could feel her gaze on me but I refused to meet it.
"I have to go," I whispered. Before she could object I pulled her arms free from my waist and bolted for the house. I tried not to think. Just to watch the trees fly past with impossible velocity. How convenient my little gift was, sensing vampires, around a three mile radius from me, with special gifts and being able to use it as if it were my own, no limit to how many I could use. Using it could tell me if I vampire I knew - or didn't know - was near and gave me ample time to decide if I wanted to run or stay. I felt the power of mind reading slowly drift from me, along with mentally shielding. This was the reason I ran. Edward and Bella were always with each other, and no way I wanted to be around the happy couple. I thought the words with more acid than necessary. But there were some ups to them always being together. Like Bella - I mentally shuddered at the thought - I liked mental privacy. And since they were always together, Edward had never heard my thoughts. Suddenly I got a strong smell of vampires. It didn't worry me though. I was used to this scent. I must be very close to the house. As I ran closer I smelt the slightest tinge if were-wolf. I concentrated on the ground again. I was lost deep in my thoughts when I ran into something. The sound of this sent a crack through the air that sounded like if someone smashed two incredible boulders together. I hit the wooden floor with a thud, almost as loud as the crack. I noticed that it didn't hurt, but that didn't mean I liked it. I glanced down at the floor worrying that I might have dented it. It was the loud, familiar booming voice that my head snapped up to.
"Ella!" Jacob exclaimed. He grabbed my wrist and yanked me up in one of his signature bear hugs.
"Ella we missed you so much! I missed you! Does Nessie know your here?" he asked frantically, his head whipping from side to side.
I sighed. Why did he also have to be so freaking excited that I was back? I was only expecting Esme to miss me as well, Alice and Renesmee too. Maybe Edward...
"Yes, Renesmee knows I'm here. I just...missed"- I hesitated as I tried to think of the right word -" Edward and Bella, but I'm pretty sure Renesmee told them." Jacob chuckled, not noticing my hesitation.
"Still not giving in to the nickname either, huh?" he asked me.
"You are so like Bella that way" he continued, laughing. I gritted my teeth, I hated being compared to Bella, but it was true. I thought the nickname was degrading and refused to give in. I tried to pull away from Jacob's hug but he only held on tighter. I realized after a second that I didn't want him to let go of me. I hugged him back this time. Then Jacob let go his hold of me immediately when we heard someone clear there throat. Jasper stood there staring intensely at me. I smiled sheepishly but his eyes just narrowed. I was confused until I tasted his emotions. It was a mix of suspicion and deprecation.
I caught on quickly and used Jaspers gift against him, blocking my real emotion and making him read the fake one of confusion and innocence, but I couldn't help the blood that rushed to my cheeks turning them red. That caught me by surprise, but then remembered that Charlie and Billy were coming to watch the game at out house. I could even hear them driving on the Cullen's winding driveway.
It was strange how my gift worked on humans and were-wolfs as well only slightly different. With humans, the more there are and closer they come the more like them I become, like warmer skin, blushing and my skin turned from millions of diamonds to a faint, yet lovely, glow.
I became more like Renesmee. Also I would gain there strongest trait, whether it be physically or personality, but only if I wanted it.
With were-wolfs it was simpler. I would simply gain the power to shape-shift to a wolf myself. I rushed to the front door. To my surprise I heard four doors open and close instead of just two.
Were Sue and Seth coming over today? As I opened the door before any of them reached the porch, realization hit. Renee was visiting today, along with Phil.
"Esme! Renee's here!" I yelled over my shoulder. As they started to unload Billy onto his wheel chair, Esme appeared beside me. She suddenly hugged me tightly and I remembered she didn't know I was home. The hug only lasted a few seconds. I gave her an apologetic look but she seemed too happy to notice. As they came up the stairs I greeted them all.
"Hello Charlie, nice to see you again" I said smiling.
"Hey Ella, hon! Where you been? Haven't seen you in ages!" he exclaimed, giving me a one armed hug.
"Nice to see too, Ella" Billy said, his tone excited. Sometimes I wondered if the only reason he came over was for the new extra wide screen T.V Emmet had recently acquired.
I smiled at him then greeted Renee. She quickly went of with Esme and Phil went to go find Emmet. He had a fascination with cars and Emmet didn't mind teaching. Charlie and Billy settled into there seats and turned the game on. I looked around me and was fully satisfied.
Then suddenly a sharp, high soprano voice pierced the air, going up an octave. "ELLA KRISTEN TUXEN! GET UP HERE RIGHT NOW!" Alice shouted. I groaned as I headed for the stairs. Last thing I heard was the people laughing behind me.
