A/N This is my first fic and I don't know if it is any good or not. Please review and let me know. You can say if it sucks.

Disclaimer: If I owned Harry Potter then this story would be much better than it is.

A Reason to Live

Remus Lupin sat with his head in his hands at the kitchen table of Number 12 Grimmauld Place, headquarters of the Order of the Pheonix and former home of his best friend and fellow marauder Sirius Black. Remus' face was red from crying and he had black circles around his eyes. He had just refilled the glass in his hand with his wand when he heard someone coming down the stairs.

A thin teenager with messy black hair, round glasses and an unusual lighting shaped scar on his forehead entered the kitchen. He looked surprised to see Remus there.

"Harry?" Remus asked, "What are you doing up?

"Couldn't sleep" Harry answered "You?"

Harry glanced down at the glass in Remus' hand to his red tear stained face and realization dawned on him. He sat down in the chair across from his former professor, looking down at the floor.

"Professor Lupin," he said quietly, "I'm really sorry"

He silently left the room with Remus' calling after him. Without thinking twice Lupin followed his other best friend's son out of the kitchen. He found Harry sitting in an old recliner in the drawing room. Remus sat in the couch directly across from him and studied the teenager, who was almost a spitting image of his father with only his mother's eyes. He felt a pang of pain in his heart as he thought about his fallen friend.

"Harry, what are you sorry about?" he asked quietly

"Like you don't know!" Harry retorted still looking intently at the floor.

"I don't," Remus said gently, "please tell me."

Harry mumbled something inaudible.

"Look at me, Harry" Remus said.

Reluctantly Harry looked up and his bright green met Lupin's tired hazel ones.

"For getting Sirius killed," Harry quietly and he directed his gaze back to the floor.

Remus looked shocked at his pronouncement. He walked over to Harry and put his hands under the teenagers chin. He lifted Harry's face to meet his own. Harry tried to get out of his grasp but the older man was stronger than him.

"Harry James Potter, what happened to Sirius was not your fault" he said firmly "Sure, you made some mistakes, but I think that we made the biggest one by not telling you about the Department of Mysteries." Harry stayed silent.

"There is something else, isn't there?" Remus asked though it was more a statement then a question.

"Please don't do this to yourself!" Harry blurted out.

Remus looked confused until he noticed what Harry was looking at, the thin glass on the table beside the recliner.

Harry continued, " Professor, I know that this isn't my business but please just listen to me. If you don't do it for yourself then do it for revenge or for the Order or for me. Please" he begged looking Remus straight in the eye, tears falling from his green eyes. "I don't know what I would do if I lost you too"

Remus went over to Harry and hugged him "Oh, Harry, I'm so sorry" he said softly as he held the boy close to him.

They both had tears running down their faces when they let go. Remus was touched by how much Harry cared about him and he promised himself not to let that low again.

"I will always be here for you Harry," Remus said gently.

"Thank You," said Harry and Remus could see all his gratitude in his eyes.

"No, thank you Harry," Harry looked at his questioningly "For giving me a reason to live."
