Love Rhyleigh xoxox
Benjamin Rafter was a true blue Aussie bloke. But even the truest, bluest Aussie bloke could fall in love, right?
He knew that the moment he laid eyes on Melissa Bannon- and he had been in love ever since. The two had had their ups and downs, as all relationships do.
But his heart was taken long before he said 'I do' at the alter.
He had known it long before he told her that he loved them, long before he kissed her for the first time. He made sure she felt respected, and he kissed her when people weren't looking- and when people were looking. They held hands as they strolled through the park; they were there for each other when they needed a friend to lean on. They had shared dreams as they snuggled up to each other in their big double bed, in the darkness under the doona. Ben had dragged his body out of bed, placing Melissa's sleeping figure in the backseat of his car, driving half an hour so they could get the best view of the sunrise in all of Sydney. He had cooked his favourite food for her (fish fingers with cheese) and in return, she had cooked him nachos. Ben had wrote on a tartlet for her, sending his two male housemates into hysterical laughter.
They had baked a cake (with only mildly disastrous results), had a water fight while attempting to wash the car, and had held each other close when they needed to. Ben had sent his wife flowers when she least expected it, and they had played Connect Four (with a twist) while blasting music in their empty home. They were best friends as well as lovers- and Ben wouldn't have it any other way.
They flirted with each other, laughed at the private jokes they shared, and tried to impress each other every single day.
But the one thing that they hadn't done was share ice cream.
And that was exactly why he made the trip to the supermarket after work, when he knew that his wife was working later than usual. He picked up a box of microwave popcorn, and a little tub of her favourite ice cream. Mint chocolate chip- just like the choc top she always bought when they went to the movies. If he got an ice cream container any bigger, he knew their romantic evening would be overrun by their housemate.
And he knew that was what neither of them would want.
Ben Rafter knew what his wife liked- and nothing would ever stop him from loving her.
"What's this?" Melissa asked, coming downstairs.
Ben had raided the DVD collection, to find a romantic yet funny movie that he and his gorgeous wife had not yet watched together. The ice cream was sitting in bowls, and the bowls were sitting on the coffee table. For once, he had taken charge, and he was quite proud of himself.
"I love you, Melissa Bannon", he uttered, as the two made themselves comfortable on the lounge.
"I love you, Ben Rafter".
The movie was just starting to get good when they heard an indignant roar from the kitchen.
"Alright! What's with the empty ice cream container?"
