Rooftop Loner
"Kiyama!" Wataru yelled as he rushed over to his friend. Kiyama turned towards the red head and practically froze in place. "I need to talk to you." Wataru said as he pulled the other by his jacket. Neither one of them spoke until they were on the roof top alone.
"What do you want?" Kiyama asked. He pulled out his cigarettes and put one in his mouth. He was just about to light it when Wataru pulled it from his mouth.
"Stop that." They glared at each other for a second. "Why haven't you tried to resolve the rumors yet? Don't they bother you?"
Kiyama sighed again as he sat down in the chair. "They do, but isn't it better this way? I mean no one wants to be friends with a killer."
"But you're not a killer! It wasn't your fault!" Wataru yelled. He grabbed Kiyama's shirt and pulled him up to stand again. "It wasn't your fault he died." He said calmer.
"But I'm the one that picked the fight that got him killed. If I would have just listened to him he would be here." Kiyama mumbled. "It's better to be alone anyways. You don't get your heart torn that way."
"And you don't think it hurts me to see you like this! I've known you the longest and you don't think it pains me to be held so far away! It's not going to happen again of you let people in."
It was Kiyama's turn to get pissed. He just wanted to be alone and Wataru wasn't letting him. "And maybe I like being alone okay?! Every day I ask myself why it wasn't me who died. Takashi wasn't the one to pick the fight he shouldn't have gotten hurt because I was stupid! You don't know how it feels to like this every day! You don't understand that I just want to disappear from here! You have a family that loves you! All I get when I get home is an empty apartment because my family can't stand thinking that I was the reason behind his death!" Kiyama turned to walk away. He got a few steps away when he heard Wataru talk.
"You're right I don't know how that feels but I also think that you shouldn't be punishing yourself for it. Takashi did that to save you. He gave you the most important thing to you, his life." Kiyama turned around to see Wataru looking at the ground looking more hurt than a kicked puppy. "I don't think he'd want you to be like this." Wataru looked up. "I know he's important to you but shouldn't you live your life for him? Not regretting what he gave you. You are that person he was will to die for. So live, make friends, let others in. I miss being able to talk like we did in middle school. I wish you would come back from your lonely road." Wataru walked to Kiyama. He grabbed the other's arm and pulled him closer. The red head kissed the loner softly. After a few seconds he pulled back. "I'll be waiting for that time." He said before heading back down, leaving Kiyama confused on the rooftop.
Kiyama lay on the ground and sighed for the third time. "Why do you have to be so much like him?" He said as he absentmindedly touched his lips. He stared at his bracelet he had from Takashi. Was it the right thing to do; letting go of his past and letting someone in for once? He didn't want to forget his best friend, but Wataru was right as well. He quickly placed the green memento in his pocket and ran after the red head.
"Wataru!" Kiyama called down the hall as he ran past his fellow classmates. Wataru turned from his conversation with Yuta and smiled. "Wataru," Kiyama huffed. "Can I talk to you?"
Wataru turned to Yuta who nodded and smiled. "Sure."
Wataru followed Kiyama back to the stairs leading to the roof. The loner looked back at the red head and his heart was pounding.
"So what did yo-" Wataru was cut off by a pair of lips being pushed onto his. He looked up at Kiyama when the pulled apart.
"I think I'm ready to let people in again." Kiyama smiled.
