Dexter and Mandark were waiting for the bus. Yesterday was the first day of school, and the day that Dexter found out that Mandark was trans. It was also the day that everyone in school found out that he was female. Dexter noticed that Mandark seemed tired. There were dark bags under his eyes, which he had trouble keeping open.
"Are you ok, Mandark?" Dexter asked, concerned.
"Huh? Oh... yeah, I'm fine," Mandark answered, "I didn't sleep well last night is all."
"Oh, you poor thing," Dexter frowned, "Why not?"
"Hm, let's see," Mandark said sarcastically, "The secret that I'm female is out, probably spread throughout the entire school, our math teacher and now probably everyone else will refuse to call me by the correct pronouns, and I'm dreading today. That enough reason?"
"Oh... right," Dexter said.
The bus pulled up and the few kids at the bus stop got on. Dexter led Mandark towards the back seat where they sat down. They were trying to get away from the staring students, but unfortunately every single pair of eyeballs followed them back. Dexter's younger sister, Bella, sat next to them.
"Hey guys," She said, "I uh, heard about what the teacher was saying about you, Mandark."
"That I'm a girl?" Mandark asked bitterly. Bella nodded.
"Well, that you're female," Bella said, "You're still a boy."
"Really?" Mandark looked up at her, "Thanks."
"No problem," Bella smiled and with that, she slapped a transgender flag sticker on her forehead, "I'm here to be supportive!"
Dexter chuckled at her actions. The three of them tried to ignore the whispering from the other students. Soon enough the bus pulled up to the school building. The kids piled off the bus, joining the swarm of other students walking inside.
For once in his life, Mandark wasn't looking forward to school.
They managed to get to their lockers before someone noticed Mandark. Unfortunately, that someone had to be one of the worst bullies in the school.
"Hey Mandork," The bully sneered, him and his two 'friends' trapping Mandark against his locker, "Or should I say Womandork?"
His friends laughed with him until Bella spoke up.
"Leave him alone, Brandon," Bella glared.
"Or what?" Brandon asked, "What is she gonna do?"
"It's he, not she," Mandark glared.
"No, it is she," Brandon said, "Because you're a girl. You're missing one crucial element to being a boy."
"Well he has something that you don't," Bella defended.
"Oh yeah?" Brandon asked, "And what does she have?"
"A personality," Bella glared.
"She ROASTED you!" Brandon's friends laughed. Brandon growled.
"You two shut up!" He yelled and stomped off with his two friends.
"Wow, thanks Bella," Mandark smiled.
"No problem," Bella said.
"That sure was funny," Dexter laughed.
"I try my best," Bella grinned proudly.
The three friends walked to class. The classes weren't that bad, as most of the teachers instructed anyone who made fun of Mandark to respect him. The first and only class Mandark had trouble in was math class. He didn't raise his hand or participate at all, unless the teacher made him.
"Susan, can you answer this question?" The teacher called on him. The class laughed at the reveal of Mandark's real name. He turned red and gave the answer before putting his head down.
At the end of the day Dexter, Mandark, and Bella waited outside together for the bus ride home. All Mandark wanted to do was go home and forget today ever happened.
