Must Be A Full Moon

His tears were still flowing. He laid his head against the pillow, feeling the small rivers cascade down his face. Of all the stupid things he could have done. All his hopes and dreams flew out the window simply because he could not wait. He could hear the others downstairs, still laughing, having the time of their lives. He shuddered to think that somebody could have witnessed it. Right now all he had was his tiny locked room, the small open window, his pillow, and his tears.

He stared out to the blackness outside. The whole world was turning, going on without him. He could hear the music below him. He could feel life around him, but he, he was dead. The sun would no longer shine for him. The night would continue forever because he was so impatient. He tried to swallow, but his throat was too dry. All the moisture went to his eyes, which kept flowing and flowing despite his objections. Why couldn't they turn down the music? It was so loud..they were laughing too hard. Didn't they understand. No, he hoped they didn't. He hoped that no one else saw.

So he waited. The cool night air tried in vain to dry the tears to his face, but its efforts were akin to trying to freeze and ocean. He heard the music soften, and the goodbyes of everyone who left. The clock lit up 12, and finally the sound of life was gone. But now he was numb. He felt like a zombie, lying there, waiting for something that really wasn't going to come. The only thing that reassured him he was alive was the warm, continuos trickle. He blew it.

He cringed when he heard the doorknob creak. Heero quietly entered, focusing his steely glare at the boy. After several minutes he moved towards him, brushing a hand over the mascara dyed streaks on his cheeks. Duo blinked, causing more tears to leak out at a faster pace. Heero lifted his fingers, inspecting the dark liquid. He ran a finger down his own cheek, leaving a similar mark. Duo looked at him questioningly, trying to comprehend the strange reaction. Heero simply kneeled on the floor, placing his lips over Duo's reassuringly. He broke away, just centimeters away from the braided boy's face.

"It's not polite to leave our own Halloween party. Especially when it was all your idea...and especially when you didn't give me a chance to return that kiss you gave me. Now look at you...you got your stupid make up all over the pillowcase. Come on, let's get you cleaned up."

Heero simply pulled Duo up off the bed and led him to the bathroom. Duo was stunned. Did he say..did he do..what was with?.. He felt as if the three hours of misery he experienced before never happened.

"M..must be a full moon.." he mumbled incoherently.

Heero just grinned.
