My best friends of many years stood together in front of me. Casey, with his two week stubble and his usual goofy demeanor hidden beneath a concerned frown, and April, worn, tired, but still a pretty mess. I envy her good looks even during a chaos.
"Why the frowns?" I joked, half chuckling and half choking from the tense air. I was never good at hiding my emotions, I swear.
April looked at Casey a quick second and then back to me. "We have something very serious to discuss with you."
Oh god! And then everything that I have EVER done wrong exploded in my brain. I probably looked like a monkey on crack when that happened, and even if I might have done a little something behind their backs, nothing was as terrible as a "serious discussion" from my best buds. A "little something", by that I mean stealing cooking out of their cookie jar or grabbing a guy's number from Casey's cell phone. Tell me, Self, that's not grounds for a "serious discussion"?
"Hey, lady!" Casey chirped. "Don't freak out on us-!"
"I didn't do anything with the Turtles! I SWEAR!"
...Yes, that was the worst thing I could think of, honestly. Those little green mutants were hot, but they were also very young and I may be boy crazy but I'm not jail crazy.
Oh, wait... could I be taken to jail over dating mutants? Really? Even younger ones?
"Uh... Irma?" April's voice seemed a bit creeped out. I guess I would be, too, if I was her.
"...yes, April?"
"Uhm, we- we just wanted to make a proposal to you. You have a kid already and all.. so..." her voice trailed off. She flustered and fluttered, like when Vernon used to piss her off at the station but it was that serious kind of flustered, like when there was something ... important... to say...
I quickly took her hand. "Tell me."
Casey softly laid his hand on mine and when I glanced up at him, his eyes were twinkling. "Let me say it. We want a baby... and would love your help."
"My help?" I giggled and I knew what they were talking about but I had to throw in a good Irma moment! "Do I get to sleep with Casey finally?"
