Late nights at the store, morning run-ins with criminal goons, breakfast and dinner skipped, cold hands in bed with her, and forgetting to pick up Shadow from soccer practice several times a week. The duties of a husband and father far exceeded his energy and patience.

The best he could do was scribble a note on the fridge, onto their little family bulletin board on a rainy Friday evening.

"I hear and I forget".

School is hard for her, fitting in among her peers is hard, and living with a nontraditional family is hard. Does she make it hard actually? Soccer gives her many kneeaches, everything-aches, headaches, hard to put down that cigarette each time, and her dad would clobber her if he found out her sneaky habit. April... no, Mom... no - stepmother? Friend? Mom tries to be her friend, but life is too much to think about.

She stopped by the bulletin board before heading out on a Saturday morning.

"I see and I remember."

Just what did they mean by these quotes? A house full of people and she feels lonely frequently. Were they trying to reach out to each other? It's a handful to tackle family and friends, so many obligations, breakfast burns, dinner burns, dinners get cold, the bed is cold, and shoulders are turned away from her. This warm weather on Sunday afternoon would be a good time to have a picnic with a family.

So what could she put here?

"I do and I understand."

Dinner was served warm on Sunday night.
