What was is (remember)
It is very easy for Ichigo to forget that the sandals-hat wearing weirdo was once one of the thirteen Shinigami captains. Urahara Kisuke, Captain of the Twelfth Squad, scientist, researcher, fighter. By what Ichigo has heard – mostly from Yoruichi, but others, too – probably one of the strongest among the captains. Rather certainly the most brilliant. Although that brilliance has come back to bit them all in the ass. Almost literally.
Yes, when Urahara drinks his tea, fans himself and generally acts goofy and harmless, it is easy to forget that this man had quite a big part in the events that led to Ichigo's life being what it is now. A complicated mess, that is.
On the other hand, Ichigo does not find his situation or occupation that bad. Actually… Well, yes. Although he would prefer to be Hollow-free, if he had a choice (but the Hollow in him makes him stronger and Ichigo has no objections to that). And he could never regret meeting Rukia.
So yeah, Ichigo mostly forgets who the sandal-hat was.
But sometimes – like when Urahara says or does something like (apologizes and kneels in front of Ichigo) - to get a reaction out of him, and Ichigo knows, right after he answers or does exactly the thing Urahara wants, knows he's been expertly manipulated, again, that's when Ichigo remembers who Urahara Kisuke is and it feels like he can never forget it, truly, but… (actually, what Ichigo feels most when Urahara kneels in front of him, eyes downcast, is a funny feeling in the bottom of his stomach and shivers running along his backbone, and heat in his… and Ichigo does not think about it, he absolutely does not).
Yes, at times like these Ichigo knows exactly who Urahara Kisuke is. And he still can't help doing what the man wants.
