I do not own anything
Mai sprinted through the black abyss that surrounded her with her eyes clenched shut. She felt as if her eardrums were bursting as she resisted the urge to clutch them, in a futile attempt to put an end to the ear-splitting sound. Almost stumbling from the speed in which Naru was dragging her through the swarm of cicadas that were continuously smashing into them, Mai did her best effort to keep her eyes open. She was covered head to toe in the bugs insides as they collided with herself and Naru's bodies at such a strong force, killing them instantly. Mai saw no route of escape, all she could see everywhere her head turned was a moving blackness, it didn't help that it was already past midnight.
"Hurry, Mai!" Naru yelled behind him, still pulling her along.
Mai had no idea where he was going. What was the point? There is no escaping this. Mai was on the verge of breaking down. The noise of the cicadas, the sound of her heart drumming in her ears, it was all too much. Let alone all the dead insects she was wearing. This was like something from a nightmare. Mai's sprinting became jogging and Naru was struggling to continue pulling her along when Mai suddenly tripped on who knows what; she wasn't looking at where she was going. Even if she was, she wouldn't have been able to see anything. Mai slammed into the ground, sliding through the dirt, her arms and legs were grazed and bled a little. Mai desperately looked up in search of Naru. He was nowhere to be seen; instead her vision was occupied by one million ugly beasts.
"Naru! Naru!" Mai screeched at the top of her lungs, a cicada just missing the entrance to her mouth. She dragged herself out of the dirt and spun around in a circle, having no clue where she was, or which direction to go. Morecicadas hit her small frame with ferocious force. Her legs were stinging as more pests collided with her cut skin, mixing her blood and theirs. Don't leave me here all alone! Mai pleaded in her mind. Still circling around, screaming at all directions for Naru, Mai decided to just start running, it didn't matter where, she just had to do something to get away from the insects. With her arms covering her face in front of her, Mai's feet took step after step, running the fastest she had ever ran in her entire life. Why is this happening to me! Suddenly Mai was flying through the sky then crashed onto the ground.
Mia's eyes sprang open, her head violently shooting up from the desk she was resting it on.
"Mai" a voice was heard to her right. Mai turned her head, her brown eyes locking onto dark-grey ones. Naru was staring straight at Mai. Mai glanced down to realise her head had been resting on her desk. There in the middle of it was her hand lying comfortably intertwined with Naru's. A blush rose to her cheeks as she looked back toward Naru, who was still staring at her. Suddenly his hand reached out toward her face and brushed her cheek gently, wiping away what she realised were the tracks of her tears.
"You were crying" he stated, now drawing back his hand. Mai wanted his warm, comforting hand to stay there, keeping her safe.
"Th-Thank you for staying with me" Mai's blush still present as she stared dumbly at their interlocked fingers.
"Instead of thanking me, go back to doing your work" Naru coldly remarked as he let her hand go while getting up and retreating toward his office.
Mai scoffed "That narcissistic jerk!". She looked down at her hand and smiled.
