"It wasn't expected", said one of the old ladies by the door of the infirmary, "Why should Scanrans attack us now, we have nothing of values now the monsters are gone.
Another old lady whispered back, "I hope Lady Knight Keladry is fine, that arrow got her hard and the fall from that horse she rides, well…"
Neal ran out and yelled, "Go away you old gossips, this is an infirmary, these people fought they need their sleep not your "news"." He then made them fully get away and went back in to look after all the patients. The patient he was most concerned about was Kel. "Their right", he whispered, "for nosy old gossips they definitely know a situation. He then kneeled by her cot. Tobe was not there and in this battle few were hurt so there were few people in there.
Suddenly, the door opened and Merric rushed in. Merric kneeled down quickly beside Neal and said, "What happened, I heard that you were attacked, but from my scouts it seemed like few were hurt and we won easily."
Neal replied, "True it was an easy victory, but at the end of the battle a mage sent an arrow at our lady Kel here and she went off her horse. I think this arrow is poisoned. I right now am letting her rest and seeing what will happen."
Merric, with an odd look on his face, said, "Neal, you must be exhausted, go upstairs and rest and I'll watch over Kel, I'll yell if anything new happens."
Neal looked confused but then cheerfully said, "You will, how did you know how tired I was? Actually don't tell me I tired, thank you so much for taking over for me." He then took Kel's hand and put a little more healing energy into her poisoned shoulder. "Good luck Lady Knight." He finally said and went up stairs to go to sleep.
Merric stood up and brought over a chair. He waited until he heard Neal's snores to talk to the unconscious lady. "Kel, don't die right now, I wanted to wait but I know I love you. Please I will follow you always lady knight. I know we were meant to be together, I knew it from the day that you beat up those guys for me. Always I wanted to destroy an enemy for you. Kel please don't……"
"Sir Merric", said a young boy's voice and Merric twisted around to see who it was it was Tobe.
"Sir Merric, Neal wants to tell you first go to bed, second be quiet about feeling guilty and that I am to watch my lady instead." Tobe meekly stated.
Merric blushed as red as his hair and fled. And Tobe sat down on the chair and looked up and saw Sir Nealen. Nealen smiled at the boy and turned around. Tobe then sat and thought of what Sir Merric had said. Tobe loved his Lady like a mother and didn't want to have anything bad happen to her. Tobe didn't mind Merric but his Lady had a hard time when that man Cleon left her. That was the only time Tobe had seen her cry. It was a lot to ponder.
Upstairs, Neal thought of some of the same thoughts at Tobe but Neal remembered a lot more. He remembered how Cleon and Merric looked a lot alike and how Merric's hot head was always cooled by Kel's soft touch. Merric always followed Kel as another male knight wouldn't. Merric had to be held back when Kel was slapped. Also at the time of Cleon and Kel's Romance it had always seemed that Merric tried to leave the two.
Merric couldn't sleep, he thought "Damn, why did Neal and Tobe have to hear they're going to tell Kel and Kel will think I was laughing at her. Damn it," but the mean person in his head said, "The point was for her to know your feelings." Merric then said out loud, "I'll do it tomorrow."
