Mizu no Akashi (Token of Water)
My first song fic. InuYasha reflects on Kikyo's death, and tries to get it out of his head. (Note: Contains spoilers for my net IY fic, "Hidden in the Shadows")
InuYasha was walking through a forest, and came upon a cliff over a lake. He recongnized this place, it was at one point Mount Hakurei, and this spot was were Kikyo fell to her death. The painful memory of holding Kikyo's bow in his hand popped back into his head.
Mizu no naka ni yoru ga yureteru; (The night is wavering in the water ;)
Kanashii hodo shizuka ni tatazumu, (The greening shore is so still ans silent,)
Midorinasu kishibe. (That it is painful.)
InuYasha stood there for a second, looking at the water that filled the spot, and the greenery that grew around it. All of it just brought back the painful memory, and he couldn't get his mind off it.
Utsukushii yoake yo, (The beautiful dawn,)
Tada matte iraretara, (If only I could wait for it,)
Kirei na kokoro de. (With a pure heart.)
(Flashback)
"It seems Naraku wasn't interested in you, but rather his true objective, was to kill that woman."
InuYasha looked down towards a broken bow on the edge of a cliff, and right away he knew what happened.
"Kikyo's bow… no, Kikyo…"
InuYasha ran to the edge and picked up the bow.
'What happened? Did Naraku kill Kikyo? No, it can't be.'
KIKYO (memory): "Naraku cannot kill me, not as long as he has Onigumo's heart, a heart that cares for me."
Kurai umi to sora no mukou ni (Beyond the dark seas and skies)
Arasoi no nai basho ga aru no to, (There is a land without any conflicts,)
Osiete kureta no wa dare? (Who told me that?)
Daremo ga tadori tsukenai, (No one can reach that land,)
Soretomo dareka no kokoro no naka ni.(Or perhaps it exists in someone's heart.)
But that proved false. She died fighting Naraku, something that shoudn't have happened, at least that's what Shizari said before his shard was ripped out and he joined the group.
"That dumb girl of yours died fighting Naraku… she got what she deserved for that, seeing as she wasn't the one meant to kill him."
Mizu no nagare wo shizumete (A melody that can quench the thirst)
Kureru daichi wo uruosu shirabe. (Of the land that calms the waters' flow.)
Ima wa doko ni mo nakutemo, (Even if it does not exist anywhere right now,)
Kitto jibun de te ni ireruno (I will come to possess it)
Itsumo, itsuka, kitto. (Always, sometime, for sure.)
InuYasha collapsed ad started to cry. He remembered all the good and bad things he and Kikyo went through. He also remembered the time before Kikyo pinned him to the Goshinboku.
"Me, become human?"
"Its possible. If you used the Shikon Jewel to become human, the it will be purified and will disappear from this world."
However that never happened, for Naraku deceived them both, and both of them "died".
Mizu no akashi wo kono te ni (Let the token of water be in my hands)
Subete no honoo wo nomikonde nao, (After engulfing all the flames,)
Hiroku yasashiku nagareru. (It still continues to flow, gently and broadly.)
Sono shizukesa ni tadoritsuku no (I will reach its tranquility)
Itsumo, itsuka, kitto. (Always, sometime, for sure.)
Anata no te wo tori... (With your hand in mine…)
InuYasha got back up and looked at the scenery one last time.
"Kikyo, I'm sorry."
InuYasha then walked away, hoping never to return to that spot.
