A Coat of Many Colors
'Twas a coat of many colors,
Green and Purple, Yellow, Blue.
Joseph thought when he received it,
'Twas the best of all he knew.
So he showed it off to others,
Strutting right and swaggering left.
Little cared he that his brothers,
Came to hate his precious gift.
'Twas a job for younger brothers,
Guarding sheep, oh yes it was.
But not for Joseph, No not he,
Daddy said no, "Just because".
So he stayed home, clean in comfort,
While his brothers watched the sheep.
Little knew he that his brothers,
Anger in their hearts did keep.
'Twas a dream he mocking told them,
Of the future possibly.
When as the bales of a harvest,
"You shall come and bow to me."
So his father cheered him often,
"My dearest comfort in old age."
Joseph cared not that his brothers,
In their souls grew hot with rage.
Soon the brothers would discover,
Joseph was a tattletale.
If he saw them out with women,
"Daddy, Daddy!" he would yell.
So they left him back with father,
Doing all that he could please.
Little knew he that his brothers,
In their minds stirred jealousy.
Finally they could sit no longer,
The anger in their hearts too deep.
One day they took him and to slavers,
Willingly they sold his keep.
'Twas a coat of many colors,
The prettiest of all some said.
Now his daddy has in keeping,
A coat of colors stained blood red.
"Do unto others, as you would have others do unto you."
-The Bible
So how do you like it! This is based off the story of Joseph and his brothers in Genesis 37:1-36. People tend to make Joseph out to be a poor little victim, when as far as I can tell, he was a hateful little brother who thought more of himself than he deserved. The reference to a coat of colors stained red, is because after selling Joseph, the brothers killed an animal and stained his coat with the blood. They returned it to their father saying that Joseph had been killed. To discover if Joseph and his brothers learned their lesson, and if Joseph was rescued you'll have to read the story! Tell me how you like the poem, and any suggestions on fixing my writing are most welcome! Even if they are flames! To God be the glory! God Bless, classacte
