I had the idea for this drabble for quite a while, but I waited until the game was actually played to write it.
I do not own Pokemon.
(setting: Nationwide Arena, Columbus, Ohio, December 13, 2014)
Kenny and Dawn arrived at Nationwide Arena, with Dawn's Piplup in tow. The two have been planning this night for several months. They were going to see their favorite NHL team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, take on the Columbus Blue Jackets, in the latest installment of one of the NHL's fastest-developing rivalries.
Kenny, now 17, was wearing his favorite orange parka, which, when he wore it, muffled his speech, though Dawn could understand him completely. Dawn, also 17, was also dressed for the weather. It was only natural that they were Penguins fans. They both had a penguin Pokemon on hand, Dawn with a Piplup, and Kenny with its final evolved form, Empoleon.
Kenny and Dawn showed their tickets to the guard, and went inside the arena, excited to see their favorite team play. It was only 20 minutes until puck drop. Of course, before game time it was announced that Sidney Crosby would not play for Pittsburgh tonight as a precaution, since mumps has been going around the NHL.
The Penguins entered on to the ice first. A dedicated Blue Jackets fan, aged 24, sitting a few rows above Kenny and Dawn, yelled out "Penguins suck!" Kenny, now with his hood off, yelled back "hey! Watch what you say about my Penguins!" Dawn held Kenny back, "don't let him get to you Kenny."
The Jackets came on to the ice next, to which Kenny said, "down with the Jackets!" The Jackets fan said, "don't you be putting down my Jackets, kiddo!"
Three minutes and two seconds into the game, the Jackets scored on a power play, to which the Jackets fan said, "oh yeah! That's what I'm talking about! Bury those Penguins!" Kenny had had enough, and went up to the Jackets fan. "You wanna start something? Bring it on!"
Another Jackets fan told Kenny, "young man you do not know who you are messing with! That there is Pika Nine, the most dedicated of all us Jackets fans!" Kenny said, "I can take anybody", as he threw a punch at Pika. Soon the two were in a scuffle, exchanging punches and kicks.
After about 5 minutes, security broke them up and told them to go back to their seats and behave themselves the rest of the night or be ejected. The two of them had a couple bruises, but nothing too major. The Jackets ended up winning 4-3 in a shootout, but Dawn and Kenny remained together throughout.
Well, that was kind of fun. Just so you know, I have no ill will towards Dawn or Kenny, I actually like them and ship them. I thought it would be fun to make them Penguins fans for the reason stated in the drabble. And Pika Nine is actually me. As much as I would have loved to be at that game, I couldn't afford it. I'm a Jackets fan tried and true, and the Penguins, starting last season with the realignment, are my most despised NHL team.
